Thaw has reformed No more prim
rose path for him! No. more burn
ing up of his father's millions! No
more revelry in the glare of the
bright lights! No more wine and wo
men The prodigal so nhas evolved
into a model young man.

Concord and ask "the natives."
Thaw, installed in the "throne room"
of the Eagle Hotel, is the city's hon
ored guest and a popular hero,
"Harry," they call him, in affec
tionate admiration though not to

or two, and a whole batch of gov
ernors. "Why," says Pelren, "he doesn't
even take a drink. Never a bottle of
'extra dry' or even a 'nip' of ale. He
doesn't even smoke a cigaret.
"He eats, works and sleeps with
the greatest regularity. He goes to
bed early and gets up early. He
spends hours every day reading good
books. He passes much of his time in
the state law library, studying every
legal phase of his case, so he can
direct his fight for freedom. And
answering his correspondence takes
a good deal of his time.
"You can take it from me that this
young man is O. K., thoroughly sane
and knows precisely what he . is
There is no doubt that the slayer
of Stanford White does "know what
he's about" Gov. Felker signed ex
tradition papers to return Thaw to
New York on the charge of conspir
acy in. escaping from the Matteawan
asylum. .Then Thaw got a writ of
habeas corpus and he is now living
at the hotel under the surveillance of
local, state and federal officers until
the United States Court determines
whether the extradition is valid.
Federal Judge .Aldrich will decide.
And the judge has appointed a com
mission of alienists to determine
whether Thaw is sane now.
If he IS pronounced sane, the court
will doubtless return him to New
York, where he will be tried on the
conspiracy charge. If convicted he
might have to serve only a short .term
om imprisonment and then go free.

sanity. And so he is walking a
mighty straight line.

his face, of course. He is "Mr. Thaw"
when he strolls regally through the
streets, accompanied by Sheriff
Drew, U. S. Marshal Nute or Police
man Stevens, and the populace
stands aside respectfully while the
conquering hero passes. They do not
even take snapshots of him. That
would be impolite.
Oliver Pelren, who runs the hotel,
avers Harry is as gentlemanly and
estimable a guest as ever slep under
