GIRL TESTIFIES AGAINST MAURY
I. DIGGS
San Francisco, Cal., Feb. 6. Sen
sational testimony against Maury I.
Diggs was given by Miss Ida Pearring,
17, today when Diggs and Walter
Gilligan were arraigned here on
charge of having assaulted the girl
on New Year's eve. Diggs is now
under conviction in connection with
the Diggs-Caminetti Reno elopement.
When Miss Pearring was called to
the witness stand she was barely
able to walk. She identified Paul
Spott as having been a member of
the party with -which she spent New
Year's eve. She said she drank in
several cafes that night in company
with the defendants and others and
later the party walked about.
At 1 a. m. she declared she was
alone with Diggs and Gilligan. They
went to the Holland Hotel and had
more drinks. She wanted to go home,
she testified, but the men took Jier to
an elevator and she remembered
nothing further until the following
morning, when she found herself oc
cupying a room with Diggs.
She asserted that Gilligan and
Spott came to the room and both at
tempted to attack her, but she resist
ed. Spott, she asserted, knocked her
unconscious and later took her to the
apartment of Lillian Sullivan, an
actress.

THE MILKMAN
By Jim Manee
He rises early hitches up,
Then works to beat the band.
While all the folks he calls upon
Are still in slumberland.
He takes your tickets leaves his
wares
And then is on his way.
You very seldom see the man
Who brings you milk each day.
P. S. I should think, on a hot day,
he would have a sour disposition.
