i led IMyroJ it I chawnced to enter an establish ment for the sale of footgear one day, old chap. Of the clerk fellow I re quested to be shown his assortment of walking boots, specifying, by the way, that they should not cause me distress by fitting too snugly. And, 'on my word, the old chap replied: "Gotcha as you ambled in the joint, pal. You want a brace of trotting cases that won't play lemon squeezer with your hoofs. Well, here's a nifty, nobby style in tango-scrapers that will fit you. as easy as the shell oil a peanut. Climb on your pe'ds now and kick the Bokhara. Ain't there room to wiggle around and do the sign lan guage with your toes. Believe me, kid, there's one fussy pair of sole mates." ' My word! o o POSTPONE IT, GIRLS The following letter was received from two little girls recently and shows how great is the need of social centers where young folks can con gregate and get acquainted. Social centers have been established in sev eral Middle Western cities and in creasing attendance and enjoyment, by both children and parents, are evi dence of their success. This is the letter: "Dear Editor: Do you think that girls who flirt have a better time than those who do not? We are 14 and 15 and attend high school and see a lot of flirting. We have behaved our selves and acted like ladies, but it seems that boys do not care for girls who do not flirt. Though we are not boy crazy we would like a good time and to have boy friends. Would you advise us to wait until a chance comes, or can you suggest some way by which we could become acquaint ed with some nice boys who would respect nice girls? W. B. and H. L." The "other girls" may think they are having a better time than you, and you may think they are also, but don't let that bother you as much as how good a time you're going to have 10 or 20 or 30 years from now. While the other girls are flirting and apparently having a good time now, you can be filling your little heads with as much knowledge as they will carry and at the same time have a pretty good time,' even if boys don't cut a very high figure in your fun. Abodt four or five years from now would be time enough to worry about the boys not paying enough atten tion to you, but if, in the meantime, you have built up your mind and body to a healthy, happy young wo manhood, then you will not have to flirt to meet the boys. Get acquainted withvall the boys and girls you can now and play with them like the children you are. Later those same boys -will be falling all over themselves and stepping on each other trying to win your respect and affection.
