Blake Says Dope Syndicate Exists on South Side Mrs. VanderbiWs Investigator Scouring City for Hop Joints. A war on. the drugstores that infest Chicago and sell dope to the fashion able hop joints on the South Side has been begun by the police They are now investigating a re port that there are several joints on Grand boulevard and in other rich districts where expensively furnished dens are located, that cater to the spreading use of dope by men and women in the upper walks of life Montgomery, druggist at 26th and S State streets, was recently fined $50 and costs for selling dope. Prank Brodie, a dope fiend, testified that he had been buying dope there for sev eral years Wm M. Blake, head of the Busi ness Men's Morals Association, says there is a dope syndicate on the South Side which peddles dope through a number of negro drug stores on South State street. "After an investigation I find that there are elaborately furnished flats on the South Side to which the dope fiends of the.ugper classes come each day," said Blake.
