mond Belmont, wife of the second
son of one of 'the richest men in the
United States, has just received from
a New York :ourt an allowance of
exactly $100 a month to be paid to
her by the young husband who de
serted her a few days after the cere
mony which made her August Bel
mont's daughter-in-law. ,
Mrs. Belmont does not believe
young Belmont left her of his own
accord. Seated in the office of her
attorney, Herman Asher, she told me,
for the first time, the whole story of
her singular life.
"First of all," she said, "I want to
begin by saying that I loved Ray
mond, that i care for him yet, and
that I do not believe he would have
left me if his father had not worked
on his fears for the future. I believe,
in other words, that the power of the
Belmont millions was pitted against
.Raymond's love for me, and thai
money won the day."
