A MELANCHOLY LOVER IS JOHNNY MOSQUITO!
The world is a blue place for John
To be in love and not be able to
look upon your loved one to sit all
day on a floating leaf and know that
she is gadding afar, nipping baby's
arm in the, farmhouse across the hill,
or singing 'merrily' here and there in
the cool depths of the forest, isn't
pleasant at alL ' .
The only way Johnnie Mosquito
knows that his lady love approaches
is when she sings nearby, and the
notes from her shrill trumpet vibrate
among the slender hairs on his legs
Then he flies to her straight as an
arrow, and makes violent Jove. He
is a worthless fellow outside of his
loving, and she hasn't much, respect
for him. She may sting him severe
ly, if she is angry, 'she may ignore
him completely, coquette like. He
cannot sting back, as he has no
stinger, . ,
There is a soft caress and then the
female turns scornfully from her
helpless mate. Wtih a shriU,note she
flies away to pierce the tough sur
face of the farmer's brow as he
pauses at the furrow end to mop his
Deserted, blind, helpless, Johnny
Mosquito di'es,.forgotten by bis mate
of an hour.
-As it reads in a Buffalo paper.
Congress swelters in Washington
all summer long making laws that the
Supreme Court will likely knock out,
after it gets back from its all sum
mer vacation. Which would you
rather be, a congressman, or go a-fishing?..
