ROSENWALD-HOYNE SCRAP STAGED
IN JUDGE OWENS' COURT
Prosecutor Opens Fight to Force Payment on 'Juliusr
$38,000,000 Capital Stock Hoyne to Start
on Loop Property Owners Granted
Assessors' Records.
Plans for getting after undervalued
loop property and a scrap with Julius
Rosenwald featured Hoyne's war on
the taxdodgers today.
Attorneys for Julius and Ass't
State's Att'ys Berger and Bell are
sparring in the county court, where
Hoyne Is trying to force Rosenwald
to pay taxes on about $38,000,000
capital stock of Sears, Roebuck &
Co.
Hoyne says this property should be
taxed $400,000. But Julius is fighting
hack. He is now being sued under
the revenue law which only carries
a fine of $200.
But from Hoyne's office came the
leak that he was going ahead with all,
rich men whom he finds deliberately
dodge taxes. One man went so far
as to say that before long criminal
"prosecution would be started on
charges of conspiracy.
Judge Owens is aiding the prosecu
tor in the general war on taxdodgers
and this morning ordered all records
brought from the assessor's office
and thrown open to Hoyne.
