Elizabeth Maloney of the wait
resses' union gave this opinion before
he federal industrial relations com
mission yesterday to show how hard
it is to make headway in organizing
kitchen help or getting protection for
girls.
c "The waitress-who-has to depend
on tips for her living has another
hard game.
"She won't resent the remarks of
a man who is going to give her a
good tip," said Miss Maloney. "It's
hard for her to determine the line
of propriety. Our union wants stand
ard wages set so no girl will have
to depend on tips. There is always
dissatisfaction where the tipping
system prevails because some girls
don't get many tips.
"Chambermaids once were organ
