to vote at him and let him know just
how he stands.
I don't know that anybody asked
him to run, but assume that he in
vited himself to make the race and
then declined his own cordial invita
tion, thus giving -himself a chance to
write a letter to himself and print it
in his papers.
But I would like to see Willie run
on some ticket in some state for
some office. That is, I'd like 4o see
him try to run, although I don't think
he would get out of a walk, even if
he were running as a Democrat in
Texas or a Republican in Utah.
Editor Day Book: The'kaiser did
not bring on this war, nor the czar,
nor the king, nor the president of
France, but the' people, the individ
ual's desire. Talk about the wrongs
of others, blame it on the Creator, on
the lawmakers, yet never for a mo
ment think 'that we are the ones that
cause it all. We want to get Tich
and start out for fame and fortune
and no means are too low to help
us gain our point, even stooping to
the lowest step of animalism, study
OP OUR FELLOW MEN, ever ready
to learn methods of acquiring an abil
ity and proficiency for taking advan
tage of our brothers and sisters and
call this bare-faced humbugging sci
ence, business and what-not. Sad,
indeed, to get down so low. The un
ion man, not worth his salt, must get
union pay because he belongs to a
union, not pay according to his effi
ciency. The employer not satisfied
with reasonable profit must have
plenty to hoard so that his offspring
can reap where they have not sown,
have money instead of brains, pat
tern after Thaw, and his kind.
Undeveloped brain capacity results
in unbalanced brain functions. We
praise HTM with our lips and honor
pim with our mouths, but our hearts
are far from HIM. Vanity and greed.
Were it otherwise we would know
how wonderful we are made, and be
ing wonderfully made, would know
that it pays to cultivate ourselves,
mentally and physically, in order to
grow and prosper. We claim to be
BEINGS of a higher order. Is it jus
tified? Lies. Actions speak louder
than words. Did we prove our claim
there would be no elegant houses
kept by "respectable" married men
no burning of midnight oil no sa
loons at every corner no carrying
gossip into the home' no diseased
children, but youthfulness ever be
fore our vision and the laughter of
happiness comes to our ears. How
ever: "I've lived in mansions and in huts,
and stopt at good hotels, rubbed el
bows with the flowery and hobnobbed
with the swells. I'm riot complaining,
for you see, the good Lord, He. has
been kind to me." Fred.
Editor Day Book: 1 think the time
has fully come when the press of the
country should follow the example of
The Day Book and demand that all
candidates publicly declare their prin
ciples, not in evasive language, but
openly and above board as The Day
And has also been done by William
H. Dunn, Republican candidate for
clerk of the appellate court, running
on a platform to exterminate the
charity trust and administer to the
poor direct.
I know and the world knows that
William H. Dunn has for years at his
own expense in behalf of the depend
ent children defied the charity trust
of Illinois and demanded the poor
and defenseless wards of our coun
ty and state be protected by amend
ing the present juvenile law to pre
vent them from being convicted of
the so-called crime of poverty by the
United Charity Trust and deported as
a slave to parts unknown and even
from under the folds of the stars an&
