Public Welfare Bureau Claims Employment Agencies S
and Greek Restaurants Work Together Ignorant l
Polish Girls the Victims Want City To Help .
In Fight Against It
That Greek restaurants not only
conspire with fraudulent employment
agencies to trick ignorant Polish
girls, but also make immorality the
price the girl must pay to keep a job,
is shown in an investigation conduct
ed by the Public Welfare Bureau into
female employment agencies.
This report shows that on Mil
waukee avenue, one of the greatest
retail store streets, there are a num
ber of female employment agencies
that deal exclusively with Polish girls
yho do not understand: EngUfihtake
as much as three and four dollars
from these girls and then send them
to some Greek restaurant, the prop
rietor of which is in league with the
agency, where they are given at most
a couple of days' work and then dis
charged or retained if they will sub
mit to indignities.
Stories of different Polish girls told
to the investigators are recorded.
The chefs of most of the restaurants
are declared to demand and take
kisses and hugs from the girls and in
some cases demand that they lead
fcomorailyee to hoW their jobs, -
