There was a great excitement as
he told its officers his story. The
president of the institution eagerly
inspected the contents of the box.
Then he shook thehand of the pro
fessor as if it was a pump handle.
"How can we thank you!" he cried
"I am glad to have been of service
to you," said the professor modestly,
starting to leave the 'room.
"Hold on, you're forgetting some
thing," challenged the bank presi
dent. "Ah, indeed what, now, may I
ask?" submitted the simple-minded
"The reward we offered $1,000.
It is yours," and the relieved and de
lighted official ran to the vault of the
institution and returned with a hand
ful of new crisp bills.
"Yours," he announced, and thrust
the money into the hands of the be
wildered professor.
The latter stood staring at the un
expected wealth. Practical ideas
moved slowly through that profound
brain of his. Finally, however, his
serious face expanded with a smile.
"I'm not to be trusted," he ob
served. "Just keep the money in trust
for me, will you? Why, I declare!
It solves my hfe problem, doesn't it.
I can get married now!"
And, newly radiant, the grand
hearted fellow wended his way to
ward the home of Natalie Bertram
to tell her of his great fortune and
his great love.

A Massachusetts man has built a
mmature dreadnought, thirteen feet
in length, which has all the features
of a real battleship, including guns
that fire, rangefinders, wireless in
struments, gunners, and even a band
that plays, martial music. The vessel
is propelled by electricity, can make
ten miles an hour in smooth water
and cost its constructor $15,000.
Rose Detling, who sings a small
part in the romantic opera, "Sari,"
while she's developing her fine con
tralto voice for a big part in grand
Boil, chop fine 1 peck of spinach,
press out every drop of water. Heat
in sauce pan 2 tablespoonfuls of but
ter and 3 of flour; add the spinach,
salt, pepper to taste and add a dash
of nutmeg, cook 5 minutes and pack
into buttered pate pans, set in oven
for 10 minutes. Turn out on hot
platter, lay slice of hard boiled egg
on top of each form and pour white
sauce over and serve.
