WOMEN WHO WORK. Janet J.
and most other women would be hap

and darn the kiddies' stockings, with
all the happiness and troubles that
come with home-making, and I truly
believe that more would except for
1 God has not seen fit to give the
kiddies to many women who WANT
them, or HE has taken the little ones
that were given, and the work saves
many a woman from Insanity or the
downward path, as it is "anything
NOT TO THINK," and even the years
do not heal a mother's heart.
2 These wives and mothers who
are employed are many of them
driven on by fear. If anything should
happen to take away the modest in
come of the husband and father she
and her kiddies would not even have
a crust to live on. What greater trag
edy than the wife and kiddies that
have been surrounded with love and
care, with enough to live on and pos
sibly a trifle saved, left helpless, to
find herself actually unable to earn
enough to feed them? She has given
her time and attention to the home
and family and is unfitted to combat
the world as a wage-earner. She is
not efficient in any line. If she ever
worked she has gone stale, out of
When the government wfll insure
that the wife and mother will be pro
vided for and the children educated,
if the bread-earner be taken to the
great beyond, when you remove the
FEAR that hangs over the woman's
head, then you will have women who
will glory in their being.
Some will say: "Let them save.
Why worry about tomorrow?" The
average salary is not large enough to
save much. It is soon gone in sick
ness, and unless our government will
protect these women without a busi
ness training and knowledge of the
crookedness of the world (which she
is happier without) , the first smooth
investment fake that comes along "
gets the savings or insurance money,
and they will come in thousands.
The country wants homes, well
bred and educated children. Men
complain that women work (all glory
to the working woman. She is capa
ble, honest and reliable), but the
same women will make as capable
wives and mothers. The women who
bear tie children and make the (,
homes have a right to expect that
some provision be made for them and
theirs if it is needed, otherwise the
fear of the future will drive them to
work, sap their strength and they
will continue to try to do the work
of whatever position they may hold "
and care for the home and kiddies.
She sacrifices her happiness and the v .
right to live her life and, as is usual v
in most things, she, the WOMAN, is
the victim and PAYS THE PRICE.
Of course, there are women who
work for the extra finery they can ,
have, and always will be. Also there
are girls of well-to-do parents who
want extra pin money or have an idea
they want to work for a time, and, of
course, these will take the bread from
those who must work. Dr. Alice M.
