Surface Lines Indicate It Will Fight' in Court if Men Are
Given Increases Hinted At May Give Principle

1 - The Surface Lines today intimated
It will fight in court if Mayor Thomp-

son and State's Attorney.Hoyne give
the men the increases they have
planned to allow.
Jas. M. Sheean, company's repre
sentative on the arbitration board,
who has withdrawn from the arbitra
tion board, told Hoyne this today.
Hoyne and Thompson are going to
pay no attention to Sheean's action,
but give the men an increase that will
approximate 3, perhaps 4, cents an
Jwur and win at the same time re
duce the wage grading period front
5 years to 3 or 4 years.
Sheean entered the arbitration
hearings protesting the men should
receive no increases Later he ob
jected to Mayor Thompson taking
outside testimony. The mayor had
been interviewing car men to give
light in determining what should be
a livifig wage.
If the company goes into court, the
principle of arbitration will be given
a death blow.
