BREAKING INTO MOVIESklBY BLANCHE SWEET,
BEINh. A CHILD RETARDED, ADVANCEMENT
Undismayed by this blow to my
artistic ambitions, I decided to go
into the motion pictures. The Bio
graph Co., one of the first to produce
pictures, had its establishment in a
private dwelling an New Yorlr city.
Motion pictures had" not become
popular then and were- being used
mostly by vaudeville houses at the
conclusion of the performance : to.
drive people out. It was not con
sidered "good form" to be interested
in the "movies."
Accompanied by a girl friend who.
had already played extra parts, I
descended on the Biograph.
We climbed three flights of car
petless stairs and entered the ball-
Iroom which occupied practically the
; entire third floor, and in conjunction
with the rqof was used as the studio.
!l never saw a room so crowded in.
