BURMAN EXPECTED TO GO 120 MILES AN HOUR BOB BURMAJST Bob Burman, dare-devil uto racer, has gone back to his old Idve, the Blitzen Benz1 car, and will try for ? new record on the new Sheephead Bay speedway, which has a seating capacity of 130,000. Track officials expect Burman to go 120 miles an hour. The speedway is two miles. o o NEW AUTO DRIVERS' UNION A new union of auto drivers which, according to its officers, will make application for a charter from the Chicago Federation of Labor was in corporated last week. It is the In ternational Brotherhood of Auto Drivers, 110 N. Dearborn sf. William Bishop and Theodore Ep stein were elected president and sec retary. All auto drivers are entitled to membership. o o King Constantino is modernizing the graceful old Grecian dance into FINE CONTRACTING FOREMAN FOR VIOLATING SAFETY LAW John E. Burt, foreman for Christ "Paschen Contracting Co., was fined $25 by Municipal Judge Flanagan yesterday for violating the safety act. John Walt, deputy factory inspector, testified how he found two scaffolds without safety rails 25 feet above the ground in the ironwork of the new municipal pier. Paschen's attorney pleaded hard with the judge to remit the fine on this "poor fellow, who was only the foreman of the job." "Judge, we have had Paschen in here time and time again," Walt said. "He always says that he has ordered his men to comply with our orders and so escapes a fine. This firm is careless in complying with the law. They had a man killed and an other had his back broke in the con struction of the Railway Exchange bldg. This law is a very important one and should be enforced." "Twentyy-five dollars," said judge. Christ Paschen paid Burt's fine. o o ; WANT OPINION ON TAX LAW Ass't State's Att'y Irwin Walker today filed a petition asking the ap pellate court to hand down an imme diate decision on the mandamus pro ceedings to compel Judge Fisher to allow, the state to file information against persons who have refused or failed to file their personal property schedules. The appellate court has already declared the misdemeanor clause providing a fine of $200 for failing or refusing to file their personal property schedules as illegal Its un favorable decision will therefore be immediately appealed to the supreme court, so a decision may.be had this fall term.
