Miss Isabel Wagner, Who Scorns the. Idea of Women Proposing to Men;
Los Angeles, Cal., March 1. "I,"
said Miss Isabel Wagner, "am oppos
ed to Leap Year proposals by wom
en. It's the man's place to propose;
it's the law of life, the law of love,
which is as old as the hills. It's
against the very fundamentals of
courtship for women to propose. Go
back to the stone age, even, if you
want to. What do you find? That
man always paid court to woman.
And this order never can be reversed.
"Miss Gloria Headington may have
established a Leap Year Court at the
San Diego International Eb?Dosition,
and it may be a perfectly lovely place
to propose in, but if I should be a
party to any proposing within It, the
man, not I, would be doing the pro
posing. "No man likes to be courted by a
woman. He immediately holds her
love in contempt She might be the
finest woman in the world, with
beauty, good character and all, but
if she should fling herself upon him,
the man would immediately hold her
love cheap. Man is a funny beast
He likes to think he is doing the
courting. But for the woman to
court without the man knowing it
ah, that, indeed, is the feminine art!
