Marie Elek, once the idol of exclusive society in Budapest, is the idol of
all Hungary. Her heroism in nursing the wounded in war hospitals nasi
won many commendations from military leaders. She was among the
first women of Budapest to enlist in the Red Cross.

HERE SUNDAY
The first city convention of the
Young People's Socialist leagues of
Chicago will be held Sunday at the
West Side Socialist hall, 1603 W. 12th
st. The morning session starting at
10 will be devoted to preliminary
work, election of committees, organ
ization, reports, etc There will be a
business session in the afternoon,
and an entertainment in the evening,
at which James H. Maurer, candidate
for the Socialist presidential nom
ination, and Barney McMahon, cham
pion of civil service reform, will
speak. Dancing will follow.
Greece has made enormous sums
from its merchant marine since out
break of the war. Freight rates are
so high that the proceeds of a single
voyage sometimes exceed the value
