should get, she may have to join the
large army of lost sisters.
Tell them that these deplorable
facts are due to the present system
of government and distribution of
wealth.
Tell them these things while their
minds are still young and fair, before
I they, become accustomed to and re-
signed to the conditions, and perhaps
they will rise in one large body and
overthrow the system. Chri J.

COLLATERAL SECURITY. A
few months ago the cotton growers
and tobacco raisers of the southern
states sent to Washington and asked
ior legislation that would enable
them to borrow money direct from
the government at low interest rate.
The bankers made a howl at once,
calling it paternalism. All the farm
ers 'wanted was a reasonable rate
based upon their unperishable pro
ducts as security, similar to the old
sub-treasury plan that originated in'
Kansas early in the nineties, which
the bankers killed by calling it patera
nalism.
Now, you know there is a great
difference betwixt high-popy-lorum
and low-popy-hiram! Now listen,
farmers, and I will show you how the
bankers are getting money (at least,
you think it's money, which serves
them just as well) from the govern
ment Yon farmers, along with the
rest of us Henery Dubbs are the gov
ernment) at less than 2 per cent in
terest and gives them the special
privilege to loan it back to us at 6 or
10 per cent interest Now, that is
I high-popy-lorum! Inthe vernacular
' of pharasaical banker it is benevolent
assimilation, and through that sys
tem they have stolen your credit and
assimilated your property and made
tenant farmers of 70 per cent of you.
Listen a moment and I will tel you
what a low-popy-hiram is. You Hi
ram Doe, want.to borrow $5,000. You
have a clear title to a farm worth
.$15,000. You go to a national bank
and give a mortgage on your farm as
security. The banker will possibly ;
hand you out $5,000 in national bank ,
notes, charging you 10 per cent in-
terest He then takes your mortgage j
(your security, your credit) and goes f
to the government, deposits it in the
treasury as his security and our kind, I
paternal old Uncle Sam hands him '
out $10,000 of bank currency. Then j
the honorable Christian citizen goes
back and loans.it to your old stand
pat neighbor and gets a mortgage on
his farm. That's low-popy-hiram be
nevolent assimilation. Is it good
business? Go home and ask your
wife or your 10-year-old kid. C. M.
Maxson.
LET T. R. ACT NOW. I notice
the Progressive national committee
says that Col. Roosevelt , would soon
stop the European war. if he was
president
Why don't he do a -humane act
and tell Pres. Wilson how to do it?
Why wait till he is president? i
Jf he can stop the European war,
as they claim, he could also prevent
any foreign country from coming
over here to attack us. i
Why is Roosevelt talking so much I
preparedness ana aavising tne coun
try to speaaa coupie oi mmon dol
lars for war ships, etc.?
The truth of the matter is, he
wants to have the Republican con
vention nominate him, "which it won't
do. Warren Grantham.
PAPERS. One of. the important
things that the public should and
ought to be after is: To get the
printing press under the public or
the labor class, and the public
schools, too. I think that the press
should educate the people with sto
ries and articles of both views, capi
talistic and labor class fight. The
public schools, under the labor class,
will be a step towards education of
boys and girls with the truth on
economic and political conditions.
