THE GREAT FLAG DAY PUZZLE! WHERE CAN
NEW STAR BE PLACED?
r There are 48 states in our union
and in the blue field of our flag there
is a star to represent each state.
There are six rows of stars with eight
stars in each row.
If another state was admitted to
the union another star would have
to be placed in the blue field. There
is not room for another as the stars
are now arranged.
Where would the new star be put?
That's a good question to ponder

There are three chances for an
other state to be added some time in
the future. There's Alaska, which
might be taken in; Porto Rico, where

have 13 stripes to represent the 13
original states and to add a new star
in the blue field for each state. .
Up to the time New Mexico and
Arizona were admitted to statehood
there has always been room for ad
ditional.stars. But now the rows are
crowded and when a new state is ad
mitted & new arrangement will have
to be worked out and voted off by
What is your idea of what this ar
rangement should be?
Can you figure out a design for
the blue field so there will be 49 stars.
Our flag is the most beautiful in
the world. In making your arrange
ment of stars, remember the flag
must retain its beauty.
Now, celebrate Flag day by design
ing a new blue field so there will be
