SOX WEAKENED FOR EASTERN
TRIP CUBS HOME FRIDAY
This same fellow Mo ran has a
reach of 77 inches, which is just
long enough to grab two $25,000
purses.
Howard Berry, all-around athletic
marvel, is off for the front with the
Pennsylvania militia. If' the Yankee
guns fail to work Berry could lend a
hand putting the shot
Roger Hornsby of the Cardinals is
said to be a milk-fed youth, but judg
ing from his feats in recent games
he's the cream of Huggins' team.
Phil Carter says he took up golf
for his health. There are those golf
ers who wish Philip had always been,
healthy.
Newman, Ga., is about to experi
ence the thrills of a lifetime.- The
Georgia State Checkers tournament
is billed there.

No basebajl locally today or to
morrow. Friday the Cubs return to .
the North Side and open a long home
stay with the Boston Braves, first
of the eastern teams to come west
a second time.
Poorly buttressed for duels with
such competent gangs as the Yanks,
Red Sox and Washington, the White
Sox are riding eatsward today for
their second seaboard onselaught In
hitting and pitching the club is in its
best stride of the season, but a large
hole weakens the infield.
Ness, McMullin, Terry and Red
Faber were left behind when the
team departed. That means Wright
and Von Kolnitz must be used in the
infield, the former at short and the
latter at third, with Buck Weaver in
terchangeable. Von Kolnitz may be in the game
tomorrow against the Yankees. He
believes his charley horse has thawed
out, but there is danger that he will
pull up lame again at any moment
Wright can take care of the fielding
department in a fairly competent
manner, but his efforts with the bat
are negligible.
The injuries to Terry and McMul
lin at this time are unfortunate. The
Sox are in the midst of a fine upris
ing that threatned to carry them to
the top of the heap. Their task with
two stars out of the fray seems a lit
tle beyond their efforts.

sition in the east than was found (j
hereabouts. The Yanks are going
fast, Magee and Baker having begun
to hit. Washington has recovered
from the slump that beset the team
on its western trip, and the Red Sox
are also improved. Connie Mack's
kindergarten has been thumped reg
ularly, but the club is gradually as-i
