Gov. Edward P. Dunne ripped the
lid on the Big Business influence be
hand the candidacy of Frank 0. Low
den, vice pres. of the labor"-crushing
Pullman Co., for governor of Illinois.
By comparing the names on the
Lowden campaign committee and
Poor's Manual of Public Utilities and
Railroads for 1915, Dunne establish
ed some subtle connections that
should interest the working people
of Illinois. Some of the men behind
Lowden are Sam Insull, B. E. Sunny,
Jim Patten, John J. Mitchell, Robert
T. Lincoln and Henry A. Blair. Dunne
said in part:
"Samuel Insull is president of the
Chicago Edison Co., and the Public
Service Co. of Northern Illinois. He
is a director of the Peoples Gas Light
and Coke Co. and a trustee and gov
ernor of the Chicago Elevated Rail
ways, all of which are subject to su
pervision of the public uitUties com
mission. "B. E. Sunny is president of the
Chicago Telephone Co., and a di
rector of the Chicago City Railway,
both of which are subject to the same
supervision.
"James A. Patten" is a director of
the Chicago Edison Co. and the Peo
plec Gas Light and Coke Co., also
subject to the same supervision.
"Henry A. Blair is a director of the
Chicago City Railway Co., the Chi
cago Railways, a trustee and gov
ernor of the Chicago Elevated Rail
ways, and a director of the Public
Service Co. of Northern Illinois.
"John J. Mitchell is a director of
the Chicago Telephone Co., the Peo
ples Gas Light and Coke Co. and the
Pullman Co.
"Robert T. Lincoln is a director of
the Chicago Edison Co., the Chicago
Telephone Co., and the Pullman
Co.
Col. Frank 0. Lowden, according
to Poor's Manual, is a director of the
Pullman Co., and he seeks to be gov
ernor of Illinois.
"I charge that the big utilities cor
porations of which these gentlemen
are directors are supporting the can
didacy of Mr. Lowden.
"Can Col. Lowden cut off these as
sociates if he becomes governor?"

TRUCK FOUND IN CANAL GIVES ft)
POLICE A MYSTERY
A joy ride in a stolen rtuck that
ended with a plunge of truck and
riders into the canal is believed by
the police to be the solution of the
finding of an auto truck in the drain
age canal at Sunnyside av. today.
The truck had been stolen from
Heiderbach Bros.' grocery, 3305 Co
lorado av., last night.
Police are dragging the canal In an
attempt to discover whether the oc
cupants of the car were drowned or
swam to safety.
There is no bridge across the canal
at Sunnyside av. and no lights or
safeguards where the street ends at
the canal bank. x

ELECTION JUDGES HAPPY OVER
SCULLY MOVE
County Judge Scully, head of the
election machinery, has made a big
hit with iudges and clerks of elec
tion by bis announcement that here
after ballots and supplies will be de
livered at the polling places. In the
past the judges and clerks have been
forced to call for the supplies at the
election commissioners' office. It has
been a. real hardship on many who
work several miles from the loop and
had to hurry downtown after work.

SUSPECT "BLACK HAND"
The police suspect "black hand"
work in the death of Santo Sasso, W
35, found shot in the kitchen of his
home at 1006 Cambridge av. at noon
today. He had a bullet through his
hand, one through his ear and an
other through his 'heart.
It is believed he was killed last
night, as Sasso wore only his
trousers and the light was still burning.
