ing about is not good or wise govern ment, even if it is called "democ racy," "government of the people," etc. T. J. ALL READ. All should read Amos Pinchot's appeal for peace. Despotism is condemned, if fighting be stopped at once. Slaves will begin to ask why their monarchic masters have caused the death of 40,000,000. Stop . fighting, then argue. C. F. Hunt. LET US SM I LE. Newspaper re ports of a few days ago told us of a meeting in New York city and that Roosevelt and Root endorsed reso lutions congratulating the Russians upon having overthrown their czar and preparing to set up a democratic form of government Where wsre these gentlemen all through the years that the radicals have been try ing to educate the masses of Russia to have done with the tyrants? No words of sympathy or encourage ment ever were sent to the strug gling revolutionists these many years. From, the capitalist press for more "than two years we have had it dished up to us morning, noon and night that the czar himself was fighting for democracy and thaFlt's about time this country took sides in the fight. It's the same old game oT deceit Roosevelt and his kind have always termed the very men they are now praising undesirable citizens. (We have not forgotten Moyer, Haywood and Pettibone.) Our morals would' collapse if our panties didn't come within four inches of our knee-caps. Why not wear Mother Hubbards and play safe? They wouldn't be any more ludicrous than the outfit the commit tee demands. I'll bet the physical condition and appearance of the members of the committee are such that Mother Hubbards would be just the thing -for them to wear. Will the public stand for this non sense? I suppose so. We will stand for almost anything. We ought to be thankful that the committee did not put the bare skin limit at our an kles. Perhaps after Billy Sunday comes they will. C. E. TO JEHIEL DAVIS. A person with a good cause never lacks argu ments to support it. I'm going to use your own analogy against you, Mr. Davis. You say: "No one would be so foolish as to set aside a patch for the free use of weeds that they might not bother the rest of the garden." On the contrary, he would be a wise gardener who would do this where but two courses are open to
