ETIQUET OF THE FLAG
Here are- the correct ways to dis
play the United States flag:
The flag should be raised at sun
rise, or after, never before.
The flag must be lowered at sun
set. It is a mark of disrespect to fly
the flag through the night
When the flag is hung against a
wall, the blue field should be in the
upper left hand corner if the stripes
are horizontal, or in the upper right
hand corner if the stripes are per
pendicular.' Bunting, for decorations, should
be placed 'with the red at the top,
white below and blue at the bottom.
A flag used as a street banner
should be hung across the street at
an equal distance between curbs.
N United States laws forbid the use
of the flag in registered trade-marks
br for advertising purposes.
In no case should the Hag be al
lowed to touch the ground.
A flag reversed, with the blueStfeld
down, is a sign of distress.
To display the flag at -half mast, in
case of national mourning or other
calamity, the proper way is to raise
it to the top then lower it a little.
Before it is lowered, it is proper to
raise the flag first to the top.
On the death of a president, the
flag should be displayed only one day
at half mast, according to regulation.
The flag is at half mast only half
a (day on Memorial day. At -midday
the flag is raised to the top of the
staff, where it remains until sunset
June 14, the anniversary of the
adoption of the flag, is Flag day. ,
BAKED BEAN SALAD
Mix cold baked beans with shred
ded lettuce and hard-boiled eggs

On the opposite page is the second
form on which you are to help me de
sign a bathing suit Pencil, pen and
ink or colors, it makes no difference.
But water color doesn't work vefy
well on this paper.
Use your own judgment, but get
busy and outline your ideas. This
design, like the. one yesterday, will
be printed twice more. All together,
there are four different diagrams,
each of which will be printed three
That means you will have plenty of
different diagrams on which to indi
cate various ideas. There are no re
strictions of any kind. Draw as
many as you wish and send them
all In. '
Remember that the twp girls who
give me the best ideas for my own
1917 bathing suit will be rewarded
by beach togs of their own design,
each suit to cost a maximum of $10,

Saturday; April 21, and all drawings
must be in The Day Book office by
the following Saturday evening.
