The first of the comedy sequenc es of “The Nervous Wreck” lets you in on the secret of the comedy. When Harrison Ford, the excessive pill-taker from Pittsburgh arrives in his flivver on the Western ranch, the fun begins. After meeting Ho bart Bosworth, who is seen as the rancher, and his daughter, played by Phyllis Haver, and taking a few pills and telling them how sick he is and that he can't possibly last long, he sits down to a regular meal and eats half a dozen ears of sweetcorn, a dozen biscuits dipped in honey and enough beef and po tatoes to satisfy Porthos. This is a starter. fff “THE TELEPHONE GIRL" IS NOW AT COLISEUM “The Telephone Girl,” Para mount's new screen picture opened at the Coliseum last night and is on for final showing tonight. As Matthew Standish, candidate for Governor and party to an indis creet vacation ‘some years before, Warner Baxter makes good. Evi dently Mr. Baxter delved deeply into this character before attempt ing to portray it on the screen be cause his delineation marks him as one of the cinema’s first leading men. Holbrook Blinn, Madge Bel lamy, May Allison and Lawrence Gray are others who can’t be over looked when distributing praise. Blinn is the political boss who faces ruin if Baxter should be seated and his son-in-law, Hale Hamilton, defeated. Miss Allison enacts the woman in the case with infinite artistry while Larry Gray’s smiling visage lights up many a serious scene. But it is to Madge Bellamy that most of the dramatic moments are given. As the tele phone girl v}io loves Blinn’s son, inadvertently finds a dramatic cli max upon her and discovers her self to be the central character in a game of politics. L MACK SENNEXT COMEDY AT PALACE TOMORROW Three new faces ale brought to the screen in the featured roles in “The Good-Bye Kiss," Mack Sen nett's personally written and di rected production which opens its engagement at the Palace Theatre beginning Tuesday. Johnny Burke, former vaudeville headline attraction, makes his bow on the screen in the featured com edy role. Sally Ellers and Matty Kemp play the leading juvenile roles. The supporting cast in "The Good-Bye Kiss” is large and filled with familiar names. Lionel Belmore and Wheeler Oak man, both well-known on the screen for years, have prominent roles. Al ma Bennett and Carmelita jGer aghty. both screen beauties, all pul chritude to the cast. “ABIE S IRISH ROSE” AT COLISEUM TUESDAY | CD-——■———■—■— T. Anne Nichols' famous stage play, "Abie’s Irish Rose” has been trans planted to the screen by Paramount and equipped with Quality Sound, featuring four important sequences with talking. A beautiful musical score has been prepared for the pic ture by J. S. Zamecnik. The picture opens at the Coliseum tomorrow. Charles “Euddy” Rogers, Nancy Carroll. Jean Hcrsholt and J. Far rell MacDonald carry the import ant roles with a superb supporting Cast also featured, including Ida Kramer and Bernard Gorcey who appeared in the original stage show in its remarkable run of five and one-half years in New York. The story of “Abie’s Irish Rose,” is one of tremendous theme, ac cording to Miss Nichols, the author and producer of the play, and who personally supervised the filming of the picture at the Paramount studios at Hollywood. “ ‘Abie’s Irish Rose’ is not a farce comedy, nor is it a heavy drama. Rodgers, member of the headquarters staff of the Alaska Railroad, were married recently at Anchorage. Commissioner Thomas C. Price officiated at the cere mony. EDUCATOR BREAKS ARM E. J. Beck, in charge of the Bu reau of Education for the Anchor age district, sustained a woken arm ' while cranking the Ford car in which he and a friend were driving from Fairbanks to Anchorage. The* accident occurred shortly after the car had left Fairbanks, but the men drove on to Anchorage. RETURNS TO ANCHORAGE P. O. L. A.
