In a few brief weeks, a pittance of hours, the fighting men of Ba taan—cxhaused by four months of steady combat, hungry, and ravaged by tropical disease — had reached that point where, in the face of a ruthless and reckless foe who out numbered them nearly ten to one, they could go on no longer. They did not quit They did not run away. Most of them gave . . . the last full measure of devotion. "The world . . . can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated . . . to the unfinished work which they who fought . . . have thus far so nobly advanced . . . that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain ..." Sitka, Alaska York, Nebraska Kirkland, Washington Ketchikan, Alaska Juneau, Alaska Juneau, Alaska Ketchikan, Alaska Petersburg, Alaska Seattle, Washington Juneau, Alaska This year's senior class of ten students lias shown itself to be an exceptionally self-reliant group of young people. The majority of them have held jobs throughout the school year besides par ticipating in various extra-curricular activities such as basketball, baseball, dramatics, and music. Tony Herman has played guard on the basektball team for four years and has been captain of it for the last two years He has been President of the S. G. A. and Student Council, a mem bet of the Pushka and Seeikah Staff, and also a member of the Pushka Press Club this past year. parold Wjttmeyer has been on the Pushka Staff during this past year and has also been active in the music department Donald Buchanan entered Sitka High in his Senior year and during this time has been on the Pushka Staff and the Basket ball Team. ‘t Walter Myers, who also enrolled here in his last year has been on the Pushka Staff during the year. Dorothy Wilms, who entered from Juneau High this year was assistant Cheer Leader for a half year, a forward on the Girls’ Basketball Team, and a member of the chorus. Betty Baggen has been Sitka High’s very successful Cheer Leader for the past two years. She has been a member of the Pushka Press Club and been on the Pushka Staff this past year. Gloria Casperson played forward on the Girls’ Basketball Team in both her Junior and Senior years. She also was Secre tary of the Senior Class for the last half of the past year. Kathryn Holt was class President and a member of the Stu dent, Council during her Junior year, and was on the Pushka and Scetkah Staff-during her Sophomore year. Frankie Parke entered in her Senior year from West Seattle High School and was President of the Senior Class for the last half of the year. She was captain of tile Girls' Basketball Team, and also editor of the Pushka. Gordon Beitzel was Secretary of her class in her Junior year and has played guard on the Basketball Team for the past two vears. She played the violin in the orchestra in her Sophomore and Junior years. The Seniors have taken full advantage of the limited cur riculum offered them here anti have obtained a good foundation in the basic elements of knowledge needed in present-day living Many of them are already fitted to take their places in the business world and some will probnbly go on to colleges and universities to complete and supplement their education. The faculty of the Sitka Territorial School, Mr. Glenwood Platt, Superintendent, Mr. E. H. Siclit, Mathematics and Science teacher. Miss Esther Olson, Commercial teacher, and Miss Anna Blom, the English and Language teacher, as well as the faculties of other slicools which the Seniors have attended, have greatly helped and guided the class through the years of their school ft) States that, if we "could hold out," they would relieve us _ agreed ® *o pool their pay to buy War Savings Bonds for a Bomber for Bataan (/ . . lest we forget, let us dedicate ourselves to the task of getting (') those bombers over there — to China, to Australia, to Russia and ') to India let us make it possible for 36.583 bombers to avenge the (f\ men of Bataan, not next year, HUT HOW!
