Coppers Take Game from
Bankers to Place
Third in League
Juneau's basketball season came
to an end officially last night with
two bang-up games in the high I
; school gym, the first won by the
Coppers, who defeated the Bankers
by a 47 to 31 score, and Juneau
; High School clinching the cham
pionship from the Gremlins 40 to
37. Thus the Bears hold first place.
Gremlins second. Coppers third, and
the Bankers fourth in the City
League.
The Bears got off to an early
lead, the Gremlins trailing with
only one point to the Bears' eight
: at the end of the first quarter. In
' the second the Gremlins cut the
difference to two points, the half
(nding at 17 to 15. In the middle
of the third period the score was
| lied at 19, but the High School
turned on the heat and widened the
lead. Nordling, center, playing his
last game for Juneau High School,
since he will graduate this spring.
j scored 17 points, and played a flaw
: less game. Others who will not be
in the lineup next year are Da pee
vich and Thibodeau.
Reischl was high scorer for the
i Gremlins with 10 points, and Mc
Daniel made 8. The Gremlins will
> be the team which the Bears will
fete at a banquet next week at the

Ross and Pomorski. with 14 and
. 13 respectively, led the Coppers to
victory over the hard - fighting
Bankers. Lundeberg was in better
form last night than on Thursday,
and made 13 for the finance team.

shots. All four squads put on good
basketball last night. Officials for
the games were Smith. Powers, and
Lenhart.

skids under the Hollywood Stars in
a practice game yesterday after

Stars failed to make a score until

State defeated Temple last night.
57 to 47 to qualify to meet Dart
mouth. eastern league champions,
in the finals of the NCAA, eastern
sectional basketball, in Madison
Square Garden.
Dartmouth eliminated Catholic

SKI DOPE
Ski conditions are reported as ex
cellent on the entire ski trail with
at least six inches of new powder
snow on most areas.
Eleven skiers found plenty of time
Friday after work to enjoy about
three hours oi perfect skiing on the
slalom hill.
Ski instruction will be held to
moriow between noon and 2 p.m. to
be followed by practice time runs
to prepare for various races to be
held soon.
The possibility of a ski tour over
the Crooks Trail aiea is also on
the books of the outdoor commit
tee to be started at mid afternoon.
UTAH UNIVERSITY
DEFEATS MISSOURI
KANSAS CITY. March 25. —
Amassing a 20 point lead midway
in the game, Utah University last
night downed the Missouri five 45
to 35 in the National Collegiate Ath
letic Association, western basketball
playoffs.

TAKES YEAR'S LEAVE
PULLMAN. Wash., March 25.—
Orin E Hollingbery, dean of Pacific
Coast Conference football coaches,
announces he asked and has been
granted a leave of absence for one
year.
The head grid coach of Washing
ton State said he will leave the
school at the end of June. He said
he asked for a leave because it
seemed impossible under present
conditions to field a football team
this year.
