The steamer left port last evening
during a gale Tremendous seas were
breaking over the bar oIlS the Czarina
attempted to pass out Into the ocean
Those on shore who had gathered to
watch the departure of the boat 8ud
donly were startled to see the Czarina
sweeping toward the north spit Her
engines apparently had been disabled
The heavy seas seemed almost to envelop
elop the steamer and she drifted
rapidly on to the spit at a point about
a mile above the Jetty The disabled
vessel pounded heavily while great
waves swept over her

and could bo seen making frantic gas
