Oct l—Specta!.—Among the In teresting ev»r?s of the week In a social way were the harvest home dinner given at the First Methodist church on Tuesday evening, the first annual papermakers' bail at Lowell on Wednesday evening, and the reception to Re*. W F. Gray and wife at the Congregational church on Friday evening. An abundance of tempting vege tables and choice fruit wu among the in teresting features of the festival river by the M«-thodi*t ladies, who served a fine dinner and replenished their treasury by a substantial sum. The first annual.ball of the papermakers was held on Wednes day evening in Odd Feflows' hall at Low ell. Music by the Everett Mandolin Club, dancing and refreshments all contributed to the success of the affair. On Friday evening the Congregational people form ally welcomed their new pastor. Re*. W. F. Gray, and wife by a reception in the church It was a thoroughly soda! and well managed function and doubtless •erved to Increase the good impression which Mr and Mrs. Gray hava already formed of this community. The Lowell society of the T. P. 8. C- E. entertained the quarterly convention on Friday evening Mrs. Powell and Miss Monday, of Seattle, were the principal speakers, Mrs. Powell giving many useful suggestions to Junior members. Miss Mun day's paper was devoted to a most Inter esting description of the national conven tion held in Washington City. The Cathoiic fair htla last week netted over |">>! A valuable set of dishes was voted to Mrs. C. P. Clark as the most pop ular lady and a pony was won by Mr. Charles Wall. The ladies of Trinity church will give a tea at Mrs F. A. Calvin Melntyre. a young man well known here, was among the passengers for Port Townsend on the Umatilla. He has been seriouely til and wa* coming home to recuperate. S.—Wednesday evening over 100 friends of Rev. and Mrs. G. 11. Feese, of the M. E. church of Olympla. tendered them a reception in order to ex press their gratification of his return to his congregation for at least another year. Wljat made the affair particularly happy was the fact that Wednesday evening was also the fifth anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Feese's marriage. Dlder S. S. Sulligan be ing one of the guests, performed the wooden wedding ceremony, and the young coup!- once, again renewed their vows.
