M. Nelson, lately of Seattle, W. T., returned from San Juan and Jordan rivers on Thursday night He was with Mr. Todd when he creviced the amounts already report< .1 in this paper. He prospected several streams behind Leac'u river arid 3au Juan and found coar.se gold on all. Ho brings some very pretty specimens from Jordan river, which winds through a beautiful valley which they named Elk valley. The specimens are orange-colo:ed, oue piece weighs $1 23 ; and the value of the gold is $lB per ounce. In a dry gulch that makes into Jordan river a pro*peit .of six cents was obtained to a f-yingpau of dirt. Overlooking the gulch is a mountain of quartz. Mr. Nelson, who has been on the "oast since 1848, thinks tho San Juan and Jordan river countries, will prove to be good mining localities, and sugges's that the government should make a trail to the new mines. The soil of Elk valley is good Tho valley is f-orn 1$ to 2 miles wide, and 10 miles i-i length. There is wplendid timber in the vicinity. As this charge necessitates some delay in transferriug at Port Townsend, as well as b:>th boats being slower than the North Pacific, the hour of starting from Seattle will be 3 A. The Alida will probably be tooled by Capt. Fer dinand Westdahl, late purser of the Annie Stewart, during Capt. Brownrr's absence from the Tacoma route. THE ORIZABA. —This steamship left Sau Francisco for Portland on Monday with 143 cabin passengers and 159 in the steerage. Among the former is L B.
