SENTENCED. Yesterday afternoon, Judga J/'wis had all the individuals brought before bini who had l>ten con victed at this term of tlm District Court, except the two United States prisoners who had previously received their sentences, and after giving eaeli one the benefit of an appropriate l»ut severe lecture, as the case would war raut, proceeded to sentence tliein as follows: Win. Wauph, larceny and robl»ery, fivo years at hard lalior in the Territorial penitentiary. Win. Adams, kesping a disorderly bouse, three hun dred dollar a and coats, to be boarded out in the County jail. It. Pnchard's one was continued. Ho did not coine to trial on account of the non-appear ance of the prosecuting witness. Mr. Prichanl was released on his own re cognizance, giving bonds in the sum of live hundred dollars to appear at the next term of court. Gray, for fornica tion, was fined five dollars and costs. The Judge state i, in tins case, that he had every reason to think that the de fendant believed the woman's husband <l«ad, and consequently made the punishment thus. The case against Wa Chong, for keeping a nuisance, wa« dismissed by the defendant paying the costs of the case. In the case of Miry .1. Morgan, by permission of the Court, the District Attorney entered a ml AURIVAL OF THE PAMAMA.—The I'. M. S. S. Co '* S. S. The poor little fellow lay insensible for a few hour*, when he corned to couie to himself and called for his mother, lie was taken into his ! mother's arms, ami soon his little limbs commenced to twitch and in a few hours thereafter he breathed his laj«t. The Success came over with the re- | mains yesterday, which were buried in the Masonic cemetery, near this city. ; ttev. L>. Bagley conducted the services *t the grave. HOP PICKING—A very large canoe containing about twenty Indians, pass ed here yesterday for White river, where these Indians will remain during the hop season assisting the farmers in taking eare of this crop. These In dians were from the Tulalip Agency, and were large, strong looking fellows. It is estimated that there are about two thousand Indian* in the Puyallup valley, at pre>»-nt. picking hops for the farmers there. The season commenced last Monday and that valley will pre sent a lively appearance until it closes. The I'arnierd generally prefer to employ Indians at this work than Chinamen, as they spend the money receive for their work for trinkets, flour, pro visions, blankets and other thirgs which they desire, and keep it in the country, instead of hoarding it and shipping it to a foreign land, from whence no dollar returns. TIIE FIHST RUN.—On last Monday evening the first run of salmon worthy of mention took place. The firm ef Jackson A Myers, at Muckilteo, took twenty-five hundred large salmon on that evening, which had a tendency to give them much encouragement. The run is expected to continue right alo.ig now thoughout the season. The Zephyr took another load of freight tor the fishery at that place last evening, and if the salmon run this season should prove as large as on previous occasions, no doubt the Muckilteo fishery will make a mint of money for its enter pri>ii g proprietors. Since the above was put in type, tin* Zephyr arrived here from Tacoma and found a large (juantity of freight to take up Sound in the morning, so she transferred her Muckilteo freight on board the Fanny Lake, which stcuiner will take it to its destination. HOME MADE SOAl*.—Yesterday wc called at the soap works of Messrs. Enorh A Heck son, on Commercial St., and found them busily engaged iu making both toilet and washing soap. This firm make about eight hundred pounds of soap per week, and could turn out three times as much, so we are informed, it our citizens would give them the preference over the San Fran cisco manufacturers. They state that they can furnish any quantity of soap mado by the very same process and of better material thuu is turned out in Frisco, at as low a figure. If this is the case, there is no reason why our people should not er.courago home in dustry by patronizing this firm. Y. M. C. A.—At a meeting of the Young Men's Christian Association, Mom lay evening, the following officers were elected to servo during the ensu ing year: President, A J Anderson; Vice Presidents Protestant Methodist Church, B A Hill; Baptist Church, G W Ward; Presbyterian Church, E Cal vert; Congregational Church, A T Bu:- nell; M E Church, T Coulter; Secretary, Dr N W Lane, Treasurer, K II Denny. Board of Managers: M E Church, T Coulter; Protestant Methodist Church, D Bagley; Baptist Church, K Kcipe; Episcopal Church, C Prosch; Congrega tional Church, J F Ellis and D llorton. Ykslkr's Hall. —Mr. John Maguire has finally arranged to give us one of hi* pleasing entertainments next Satur day. It is no use of us praising up this artist, lor he is too well known through out this country as one of the best pro tian and monologue artists that has visited our city for many a year, ilis entertainment is refined and full of fun, so don't forget next Saturday, and give him a hearty welcome by giving him a bumper of a house. Limk. —The Dispatch took a load of staves and barrels down to San Juan Monday evening, and will return with a load of lime for Portland. The Teaser returned from Tacooia yssterday, where she had left eight hundred barrels of this lime, consigned to Portland. Judg ing from the amount of the product shipped by that firm, we should judge ! that the San Juan Lime Company are doing a rushing as well as paying tidi ness. Daii.y Mail.— The President of the Seattle and Walla Walla Railroad Company has received orders trom the Department ut Washington, to carry the mail daily from Kenton to New castle after tiie 16th inst. This news will be hailed with joy by the people along the route and at the latter place. SIUFFINo. —On Monday the Reporter arrived iu San Francisco, and the same day the ship Majestic sailed for Seattle. The Courser is loading for the Sound. Pkusokai.. —Governor E. P. Ferry arrived in the city last evening trom the Capital, lie is looking iu go.nl i health and spirits.
