Real Estate ! LOAN AND INSURANCE AGENT, Corner Douglas and yv-iOHiiT, THE MOST RELIABLE ABSTRACTS IN THE COUNTY. Taxes Paid and Rents Collected, Correspondence Solicited. SUNNY KANSAS. In tho first numbers of the "Wichita Dvn.Y Emili., we wish to eall the attention of its many readers to theinduecmenls offered to the immigrant to Wichita and Sedgwick county. We assume it as a fact that the great Arkansas val ley is a favored spot, that nature has showered her blessings with a lavish hand, that our fu ture is full of promise, but a word of detail may be of interest to the many contemplating a move to tlie West. The visitor will readilysce that in this and the adjoining counties we have the largest body or bottom or v alley land in the west, and it may be said that it is not a valley hedged In by precipitous elilTs, making a large percentage of waste land, but the margin is only marked bv a gradual slope, every acre of which maybe tillnl profitably. Our soil is a rich sandy loam, well adapted to a great varie ty of crops. Thesub-hoil is a deep deposit or sand, affording a free passage of water from the river, and by constant evaporation nourish es the crop during the dr est season. The visi tor to our "Forest City" will sec the effect of this by the freshness and vigorous growth of trees andTcgctatlou, even in midsummer. To attempt a showing or statistics, or our products or late ears is not our purpose, though it may be or interest to know that the assessor's report for the ear ls33 show3 a re turn of 0,b7.,0.V) bushels of corn raised in Sedge wick count alone, from which it will be seen that the l.',w busiiels donated to the sufferers from the Ohio flood was but a drop from the bucket. The crop or wheat, oats and other grain, the number or cattle, sheep and hogs shipped during the ear were each in propor tion to the corn product. The rich, nutritious grasses, the mild winters and short reeding season, afford peculiar advantages to the stock raiser, and the story or our success in this branch or industry has spread beyond the lim its of onr State. Last v ear we negotiated the sale or .r,)i) acres or land in the western part of the county to parties from Ituffnlo, N. Y., to be known us the "Jew ett horse farm." The pur KsC is to breed and raise thoroughbred horses, and the location was selected particularly with reference to all tho necessary conditions, after having visited many portions of the west in search1 or a Iocon. Men may theorize and speculate, but t.iG investment of money tells. For every .variety of fruit suited to tho cli mate, there seems to be but one condition to a sure crop the planting of trees. Onr fanners ami fruit growers are already realizing large profits from this crop, which will increase with the growth or orchards. Our grand exhibit at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in '70 w ill long be remembered by the thousands who there learned with wonder what we had achieved in the wuy of fruit raising The growth or our uty within the last Tew ears has been phenomenal. From the trackless prairie on 1 cars ago she has bloomed Into a cit or as many thousand inhabitants. From the building or gas and water works, a street rail way, and, by actual count, 573 new houses last car, it may he inferred that our condition, to say the least, is hc-iltby. With our six banks, with an aggregate capital of over sVW.ooo, our live or six flourishing newspapers, to which we can now welcome thcMIvn.v Em.li:, with the associate press dispatches, onr five ralhoad lines, our Miprcniacy in size and thrift to all surrounding points, wo may claim for Wichita a rapid grow th Tor ears to come. Our geo graphical position is sulliucntly lemole Troin larger cities to make it nv ailable as a distribut ing point This condition Is duly attested by the building or rival lines or railroad, giving us the advantage or competition in freights, and as naturally as results follow causes our mer chants arc turning their attention to the job bing trade, the first venture or the kind being a wholesale grocery house, with a capital or $100,00.). The field is ct unoccupied in many branches of trade. A pork packing house, a woolin factory, btarch works and a canning f.tctory, are a row or tho things greatly needed. The material and the market are hero side b side, strikingly illustrated in the roily or ship piiigtho live hog to Kansas City or Chicago to be killed and returned to us in the form of l.in- brands of hams nud breakfast bacon at btill more fane prices to tho consumer, in addition to our homo market we ma alwas depend on a ready sale for our surplus to our neighbors in the non-producing regions or the Itocky moun tains, saing nothing or the great -markets rnr ther east In the money ci liters ol the country tlare are millions or unemploed capital which might find safe and profitable emploiiient in ouroung and growing state. New industries are springing up on every hand; onr cities and towns are growing; the product or the field and rami are Increasing; v allies are tending upv ard, Lbacked by the productions or the country, and fha bone and tissue and energ of the people, ror tunes haiobeen made in thelcgitiiiiateincrease or values, aud with the impetus now moving us there are line opiorUmit!es for iuick n turns tomone properl invested. From our partial list, which is but an index to what we have to offer, it will be seen that the purchaser can be suited in any class of real es tate. Improved farms and wild lands, stock ranches and .lit propert can be shown in great vanet. Any information sought with a view to purchase in oar section, will be cheerfully given, and a circular containing a map of Sedgwick county, with an extinued list of property will be mailed on application to N F.
