Mrs. H. P. Whitney * Sails for Paris to Exhibit Own Art Will Be First (tftllery Exhibi tion of Her Sculptures in That City. Mre. Harry Payne Whitney, sculp tress. sailed yoaterday for France on I<a Savole to arrange an exhibition of twenty-six pieces of lier work at the George Petit Galleries in Paria Although Mrs. Whitney won a medal at the Paris Salon before the war, this v^l be the first gallery exhibition flhe has had in that country. Among the pieces to be shown are "The Aviator," for which her son, Mr. Cornelius Van derbilt Whitney, posed, and the Wash ington Aztec Monument. Wllltmi Mengelberg, the Dutch con ductor who has been directing the Na tional Symphony Orchestra concert sea ion, sailed for Holland yesterday on the liner Nieuw Amsterdam, without broken bones, but with wuted collar, bruised back, badly squeesed hand and other In juries Incidental to a riotous farewell. Two thousand persons were in waiting for Mr. Mengelberg on and near Pier 7, Hoboken, and literally charged down upon him when he appeared. Three hundred, mostly women, surged along with the little conductor In their midst, and carried him aboard the liner before h? could prevent his passport and other papers on the pier. In the crowd three women fainted. Despite the efforts of officers and crew the liner wan delayed fifteen min utes by the last minute farewell hand shakes and kisses showered upon the conductor. Mr. Merfgi'lberg said he was overpowered by the reception, and this was literally true. He finally fought his way to his cabin and his admirers were gradually Induced to remain In America. Mr. Mengelberg will resume direction of his own orchestra in Europe, but will return here next year. Among the other 846 passengers on board the Nieuw Amsterdam was H. van Cordt van Lauwenrlch, Netherlands Ambasador to Chile. PAVLOWA STARTS ABROAD. Mme. Anna Paviowa, with twenty-six members of her troupe, sailed yesterday after a highly pucch ssful season on the Rc-<1 Star liner Finland. The voyage will not be altogether a holiday for the dancer, for before sr.il iner she arranged for a room to be fitted up as a tiny gymnasium. In this she will keep her muscles In perfect condi tion. She a'so will discuss new features with the other members of her company. A large crowd of admirers and profes sional friends i>ade her farewell. Only fifty-five first, 120 second and 171 third class passengers sailed on the Finland.
