COTTON DROPS ON WEATHER REPORT Statement Is More Favorable 1 ban Expected and Starts Prices Downward. A more favorable weekly weather re port than had generally been expected led to a decline of about >i cent a pour.U in yesterday's cotton market. L'p to the time of the publication of the report the market was another dull and feat ureless affair of local evening up. The Government report failed to t stify to the gloomy conditions mentioned In ; -1 vate advices received daily from nil over the cotton belt. On the whole the report was bullish, but hardly as much so as had been expected. Publi: 'ntete-t in the market continued at minimum. Pressure came from Liverpool. Liverpool cables were about as due. reports from abroad speaking of a featureless market. The official weather map was clear but warm west of the Mississippi, while east of the Mississippi heavy showers fell at places. Macon reported more than an inch of moisture. In the first hour the market advanced about tl to 12 points, but pressure in creased gradually after 11 o'clock with the early- weakness of securities and the unscttlement of foreign exchange. There seemed to be a disposition amors local operators to sell the market In the lace of bullish crop news, probablv cn the theory that the market was thor oughly fed up on it. The market held eteady until the fourth hour when prices dropped about 10 to 20 points under Tuesday s finish. The list dropped rur ther in the last half hour, the market closing around the low, 21 to 21 points down from the preceding l'lna's. Tho local spot market was olf 20 points to 12.80 cents. Attention of traders in wheat centred largely on official announcement that 5,700,000 people are out of work in the United States. Federal Reserve Board statements about factors operating against business progress likewise re ceived much notice, and en too were fresh declines in the New York stock market and In foreign exchange. The bulls were further handicapped by as sertions that estimates of yesterday's export business had been greatly exag- I gerat?d. On the resulting breaks In wheat prices houses with Kastern con nections did much buying. As a rule, however, longs showed an Increased de sire to liquidate their holdings, and with bears operating more extensively rallies failed to last, notwithstanding that country offerings were light.
