I Frances White Har, Boy and Girl Part in Bedroom Co;nedy pnp * J yP Hotel Mouse* at Sliubert Theater Reveals Actress in New Light. One problem was cleared up last night / VS "The Hotel Mouse," which crept Into the Shubert Theater. That was the moot question whether Frances Whites hair ran be unfurled, or whether it has been permanently glued back in her own par titular coiffure, it can now be said au thoritatively that her hair can fce un- I furled. I I nis is really an important point that j hitherto been unsettled in Miss J 'White's previous vehicles, wherein her 1 chllillike brow seemed forever cleaving th rough waves of slickly eombed locks. If for nothing else this musical comedy presented by I.ee. and J. J. Shubert is notable for setting at rest the argument to whether there is any known com bination that can open up Mi*s White's tressee. Vou see. there happened to be a bed ii> this plot, so Miss White had to let 0 wn her back hair. Oh. it was really *Hs? Whites hair. And Miss White popped into it for a quite valid musical <? onedy reason, concerned principali ty ViifVa n'.Ce young ma? ? chance! le ts of ?i ?Ve W th her' vShe happened-I Jots of things just happened-to be a p.?or little innocent girl, who was coi-i $' k ? ?a" eIderl>' to earn a dishonest living by robbing hotel guests when she seeks to steal the lnevita-1 pearl of *re*t price from a wealthy1 S^ung American in a Monte Carlo hotel *e discovers her, sympathizes with her mil decides , to Protect her. after the en-1 raging habit of young Americans In I riuscial comedy, who always extend the I IE? ^Ctrin* tc youn* women Jbroad. MISS EAMES ADMIRABLE 4S THE WIFE IN CAST OF TWO j The First Fifty Years' IIjjs Some Humorous and Ab sorbing Minutes. Youth had it.? liing with muie or less of a vengeance at the Princeaw Theater last night. Tom Powers and Aliss Clare Karnes, who are not veterans in years or experience, acted the only two roles in "The First Fifty Years." Henry Meyers, the author, is a recent graduate of Columbia University and his impre sarios, Lorenz M. Hart and Irving S. Strouse, are said to come from the same institution. Only the name of Living ston Ptatt, who was the stage manager, suggested maturity. Mr. Meyers has with the relentless pessimism of youth drawn a series of pictures of what may happen In matri mony even when it begins under th^ most favorable conditions. In the firs? tableau a young couple enter their Har lem home straight from the moneymoon. They are happy anu osculation echoes throughout the parlor. It seems to represent the decorative taste of Har lem In the early '80s. Miss Eames, however, was dressed in the mode of the Second Empire. Were Harlem and the Grecian Bend ever contemporaneous.' They were In the play last night until Miss Games slipped on a wrapper that seemed more suggestive of Godey's Lady'c B9ok of the period. The course of true love never ran smooth even in matrimony. He earns too little. She has an old lover in the background, or at least in Australia, which ought to be remote enough for the most jealous husband. After a while they cease to speak. He earns more but they still stop in Har lem. He is ill and she postpones going away especially after he has attracted her attention to the fact that she is not so young as she was. So she stops at home and after a while they are so satisfied with old age that they take to playing eucher on Sunday morninpH. But they talk of going to church after a. while. The population of the. family was increased only by a canary. There was no change of scene. Every thing was Harlem and the same couple. Missnjames acted the wife with her keen intelligence and characterized her passage through the years. Tom Pow ers gave a really masterful performance of the husband. Especially truthful was his acting of the later scenes which had ALICE MtCHOT, CHICAGO SINGER, TO GET DIVORCE D?**rt*d by J. A. Plamondon, It 19 Alleged. CHICAGO, March IS-??ne of Mary Garden's singers was assured her free dom to-day when Judge Oscar M. Tor rison ot the Circuit Court indicated that he would grant a divorce to Mrs. Alice Pauline Micnaud Plamondon of Chicago. known to operagoers as Alice Mtchot, contralto. The dujt was brushed from a romance of twelve years when. ?t was testified, Joseph Arthur Plamondon h"?ba"d ?f the singer, ran away with his pretty SSmary and left Mrs. riamondon alone in Montreal.
