LIVERPOOL DRAGS
DOWN WHEAT HERE
Pull of Enjrlish Market Off
j sets Unfavorable Crop News
in United States.
Chicago, March 28.?Despite unfavor
able domestic crop conditions the wheat
market here averaged a little lower to
day, Influenced by comparative weak
ness In Liverpool. The close here was
unsettled at a^c. net decline to "Sic. ad
| vance, with May $1.32!ls to $1.32'i and
July $1.19% to $1.19Vi. C?rn finished
?Kc. to % & ?'?fcc. down, and oats un
changed to He. off. Provisions ended
unchanged to 7c. higher.
With Liverpool closing at a slight de
cline to-day In the face of a material
upturn here yesterday, selling orders >
predominated at first in wheat here,
especially as bearish estimates of the J
Argentine exportable surplus were cur
rent. Declines were subsequently more |
than offset by advices that winter wheat
in western Kansas and Oklahoma uas
making much less response to moisture
than had been looked for. Word of
unseasonably cold weather in the JJorth- |
west and West tended also temporarily
to lift the market. On the other hand,
milling demand remained slow at Kan- ;
sh.h City and St. Louis In particular, and !
with export business also falling to de
velop any important volume, the market
here sagged again at the last.
Corn weakened with wheat, notwith
standing a good export demand for corn
at the seaboard. Wet, cold weather, de
laying seeding, gave relative firmness to
oats.
Changes In provisions were governed |
almost entirely by hog values.
