Relative May Weakness in Contrast to New Crop Stead iness Market Feature. Latest weather developments, which were favor^ile, resulted In sufficient local speculative pressure to depress yeoicrdaj^s cotton market about 10 to 32 poiryfs, but part of that loss was re Bnipelf before the closing. A feature of jJkffo pesslon wa3 the relative weakness ' of thy at times against steadiness in the new crops, which after early de pression came back to about the level of Saturday's close. Final bids showed October to be a point net higher and other months 4 to 17 points net lower. Considering the action of Liverpool ?nd the clear weather map, yesterday's warket made a good show. The Liver pool futures market broke sharply after early steadiness, probably reflecting eld bull liquidation and straddle selling tn that market against purchases of new crop positions here. The official weather map was generally clear and season able. with only a trace of precipitation anywhere in the belt. Should favorable conditions continue, or even favorable conditions with only slight showers, crop estimates will have to be enlarged, es pecially in regard to Texas. It was not surprising that the price of May contracts dropped below tenderable basis in the absence of spot demand of cpnsequonce. The premium of May over July was reduced to about 40 points yesterday after having been more than 60 at ore time last week. Should there he a revival of spot demand the pre mium undoubtedly would widen once fnore. All In all the session was quiet and uninteresting, with price fluctua tions narrow. The local market for spot cotton was quiet. 15 points lower at 17.90 cents for middling. The New Orleans market was ?teady, net unchanged at 3 6.63 cents for middling. Its sales in that center were of 1.3S0 bales. Range of prices? _ , ? Prev. *._ USrr?l^ . .230 2->5 An. Bxch 250 255 Battery '3-J Howery 4*. Bryant Park.. l.?.
