Seized with a sudden mania to ?carve" someone. Frank Cryan, a Spanish-American war veteran, stab' bed and probably fatally wounded Alexander McDonald, a veteran of th > Civil war, while in the quarters of Company C, at the National Soldiers' Home yesterday afternoon. Mr. McDonald, who has twelve ug? ly gashes In his right arm and side, lies in the Home hospital in a pre carious condition, while Cryan is a prisoner in the guardhouse, there iwoiiing the termination of his vic? tim's injuries. Before members of the company could get to Mr. Mc? Donald's rescue Cryan had succeed? ed in stabbing him twelve times. Mr. McDonald's arm is badly lacerated, whlla the eut^s In the side are deep and dangerous. Victim Taken to Hospital. Mr. McDonald was removed to the hospital, where the physician operat? ed upon him and closed up the wottmls. At 11 o'clock last night it was given out at the hospital that Mr. McDonald was resting well, al? though the physicians were unable to state h'ow seriously the old man is injured. Mr. McDonald served during tthe civil war With the United States itr tillery. He Is known as a quiet and peaceful man among the members ol his company at the home. He is t!8 years old. Cryan is a Spanish-American war man. lie lias been an inmate of the Home hero for two years. He is about IK) years old. II IS BtLIEVEO HR. LYNCH WILL ACCEPT THE GAU He is to Give His Decision to the Committee of the Y. M. C. A. Today. Mt? W. R. Lynch, who has been in? vited to become the secretary of the Hampton Young Men's Christian As? sociation, is -expected to give his an? swer to the board of directors today. It is likely thut Mr. Lynch will ac? cept the call nnd if so he may come here permanently May 1. The board of directors of the as? sociation met yesterday afternoon, at which lime Mr. Lynch was given a unanimously call to the secretary? ship. Mr. Lynch who was present announced that lie will give his final answer today. The members of the board are much pleased with Mr. Lynch from what they have seen of him, and it la expected that he will prove the right man for the place. Mr. Lynch has traveled extensively and was connected at one time with a meeting of the Salvation Army, while in it foreign country. He is young, ambitious, full of spirit ami deeply concerned in the work of the association. At present Mr. Lynch holds a posi? tion with tin Insurance company at Ashville, N. C. MR.
