The local papess had announced the new birth at his home as that of a girl, not withstanding the attending physician pronounced it a boy. The sad intelligence has been received here of the death of “Uncle Tommy” Jones, formerly of Valmont and a sger. The funeral will be under Masonic aus pices at Denver next Sunday, Mr. Jones having died under the roof of relatives there. He was father of Joe Jones, form erly well known here. The wagon road to Left Hand should obviate the heavy pull between Sun shine and Gold Hill. The upper road advocated by Commissioner Patton would accommodate only .Ward and Boulder travel. What is wanted is the Spring gulch, the Prussian, Revenue and other trade of the Middle Left Hand country. John P. Haldeman, the well known Gold Hill miner, wasin town today. He is an enthusiastic advocate of the pro posed new road, although it cutsoff Gold Hill as the line of travel to Ward. He argues that the chief Gold Hill mine: must eventually ship from Left Hand and that the new road will be of material tenefit to the miners resident in the camp because of the cheapened price of bauling of ore and supplies. Mr. Haide man’s head is level on this point and he talks right out in meeting. Mr. Hal Sayr calls the Camera's at tention to a discovery he has made. The English <parrow has comg to Boulder. Six of them were seen in the court house tregs this morning and Mr. Sayr, who knows them well, says he has observed them elsewhere. He advocates that radical action be taken by the authoritics to extcrminate these pests. The Boul der Gun club could engage 1n no miore useful enterprise than to start out tor the slaughter of tlese birds. The English sparrow breeds as rapidly as candidates for road overseer and are the nuisance of many cities. Exterminate them and nead off the invasion. _~Fine engraving is something never heretofore attempted by Boulder jewel ers and, theretore, the fact that Mr. R, J. Taupert, an experienced artist in this line, has come to Boulder to stay will be received with pleasure. Mr. Taupert’s work is highly artistic and off hand en graving will be his specialty, though in his shop, temporarily located in* An gove's store, he will be ready at all times : to do all kinas of watch and jewely and clock repairing. Northern Coloradu and, in fact, the en tire “arid region,” is to be congratulated on the securing, last week, of $2,000,c00 for a big irrigation project in the countes of Weld, Morgan, Logan and Sedgwick, situated along the lize of the U. P Den ver & Gulf Ry. The object of the pro moters of this vast enterprise is to con strucc large ditches and storage reser voirs, thus bringing undcr cultivatien and rendering productive thousands of acres which are now used for grazing purpo-es only. Owing to the ferulity of the soil, the fine climate, nearness to market and the adaptability of the soil to every va riety of grain, it will immediately attract the attention of industrious setilers.— Rocky Mountain Great West. Resolution of Thanks. At a regular meecting of Nathaniel Lyon Post the following resolutions were unanimously passed: Whereas, Nathaniel Lyon Post No. 5, G. A. R., in connection with Relief Corps No. 27, has recently held a fair for the relief of any needy comrades and ‘those depending upon them. Therefore beit - Resolved, That we tender our most sincere thanks to the merchants and business men of Boulder for their gener ous donation of presents, to all who soid or bought tickets, to the many persons who assisted at the entertainme:ts and in various other ways, to the city press for the free use ofits columas, and to the generous public generally. Resoived, That to General Lew Gin ger, who successfully organized and managed the enterprise our thanks are speciaily due. Bank Secures a Lien, In the case of Allen Winch against J. M. O'Neill, Judge Butler yesterday is sued an order which gives the Colorado ‘ Nationa_l bank, intervenor in the case, a lien against 14324 shares in the Boulder Pressed Brick company already attached under a note tor $5,545, The claim of the bank is given priority by Judge Butler's order.—Denver News.
