The Gulf road has adopted the use of platform guards on its Boulder train, far’ \the purpose of keeping the university boys from jumping on when the train stops at the university station. } J. C. Schriver, who with his wife and daughter, Mercelina, has been visiting with O. H. Wangelin, returned to Den ver this morning. Mrs. Schriver and daughter will remain a week longer. Miss Jessie Green started yesterday I on a trip to Southern California where she will be joined by her aunt and uncle, Mr.and Mrs, D. H. Cody of Detroit, Miss Greene expects to return to Boul der in about a month. The mention of Prof. DeLong's very excellent lecture befor the county teach ers’ convention Friday night was, by er ror, omitted Saturday. There wasa very good sized audience present and the lec ture was enjoyed thoroughly by all. Yesterday afternoon the funeral of the infant child of James Martelli took place in Marsball. The cause of the death is reported to be black diphtheria. The children of Julius Boeckwho have been ill.for several days are reported to be improving. There was scarcely any perceptible change in the condition of Arthur Chase this morning. A. J. Matherson of Chatauqua county, New York, is visiting his sister, Mrs. George Poor, north of town, The glee, mandolin and banjo clubs will give a concert in Masonic temple hall on Friday cvening, March 12. Harry Walker, a young lad living on Goss street, is suffering from an attack of St. Vitus’' dance in its most violent form, Hon. J. W, Downing, contractor and builder of the street railway and water works of Pueblo, is speading a week in Boulder. j Robert Peters, who went over to Den ver last week on business for the Stand ard Gold Production company, returned this morning. Mrs. George Conwell left ~ yesterday to join her husband at Colorado Springs. Mr. and Mrs, Conwell will make that city their home for some time, Mrs. Daniels of Longmont is spending a few days in Boulder at the home of Mrs, D. Poor, where her daughters are stopping while attending school here, Charles R. Burger came up yesterday from Denver to see his aunt, Mrs. Fred Burger, but on account of the serious il ness of his wife was compelled to make his stay a very short one. Mrs. Fred Burger is reported to be sinking rapidly. She has been sick for several days and it is feared that the end is approaching. Her brother and his son Fred have been sent for. A despatch trom Indianapolis yester d‘ay,stated that the Metropolitan opera house of that city had burned down. This opera house was built by Mr. V.| Butsch, who was a former resident of‘ Indianapolis, and was the first one established 1n that city. It was conduct ed by him for a number of years. ‘ ~Mrs, W. S. Gilbert, the mother of the Gilbert brothers at the Parlor drug store, accidently fell while stepping from her buggy in front of the Methodist church yesterday, and was badly shaken up. She went into the church, however, but was overcome in a few moments by a fainting spell and it required some time to resuscitate her. Itis reported that she is doing nicely today. A good story is told of a petit larceny l case which came up last Saturday before a Swede justice named Lundine, in Can field precinct, which reminds one of the Irisman’s idea of preponderance of evi dence. A man was arraigned for having stolen a buggy robe, and after examining a number of witnesses and listening to ‘the oratorical efforts of the attorneys, the justice adjusted his glasses and gave the following opinion: “I tells you what I tinks about dis case. There is only two witnesses what saw the defendant take the robe and there is eight witnesses that testify positifly that they did not see him take it. After light refreshments were served the company dispersed, wishing the genial host many happy returns of the day.
