He's dropping rapidly into the ways of his illustrious predecessor. It was reported from Obhio recently that Hanna was effecting an orgaaization which would insure his own election to the senate and the renomination of Presi dent McKinley in 1900. He will find when it comes to insuring McKinley's reelection to the presidency that the premium is a little high, The associated press despatches are responsible for the very remarkable statement that Speaker Reed, onaccount of Representative Shafroth’s winning the last chess game of the international series with England, addressed him in the following terms: “Old man, the next | time you want to make one of your six teen to one speeches, let me know, and you shall have full swing. An Answer. Louisville, Colo,, June 3, 1897. To the Editor of the Boulder Camera, Dear Sir:—The Camera of May 27th contained a letter dated at Lafayette and purporting to give certain information to ’ the public concerning the affairs of the Industrial Coal Mining and Mercantile company. The writer, whoever he may be, must be either ignorant of the the facts or de lights in misrepresenting them through malice. No person, of zood sense, would attempt to inform the public ona matter ot which he is entirely ignorant as in this case. The statement 1s made that] made contracts with a certain Denver party which were to the detriment of the In dustrial company. In that the writer no doubt desires to attack my integrity. I beg to state that no contracCts were ever signed by me as president of the In dustrial company, without being fully authorized by the stockholders of the company at meetings of the stockhold ers wh-re all were present. The writer states that J. Carruthers of Lafaye:te was mentioned as the choice of half of toe ditectors for receiver. The obj -ct of this, no doubt was to show that the company was divided into two fac: tions. I beg to statethat Mr. Carruthers was not at any time mentioned for re ceiver bv any one of the directors of the] Industrial company. Whatever infor-]- mation the writer may have of a division in the company, I do not know, but I may say that at the Jast meeting of the stockholders of the Industrial Company,‘ everv matter voted on was adopted or rejucted by a unanimnus vote. Very respectfully J. H. Hoop. McKinley Prosperity. The Westinghouse employees in Penn sylvania who went to Canton last fall to trample on McKinley’s lawn and shout for sound money are now coming to their senszs. First they suffcred a25 per cent. reduction of wages and then the works closed down indefinitely, throwing them all out of employment. A fewdays ago, and as a result of this last wavelet ot good times they proceeded to tear down all kinds of McKinley banners and mot toes still hanging about the works, to the accompaniment of cheers for Bryan and promises to vote right next time. 'Tis to be hoped they will remember the les son and endeavor to impress it upon their fellows in that state who made up thatsuicidal majority for pretended sound money last fall—Leadville Herald Dem ocrat. She has means, and you can, undoubtedly, recover heavy pecuniary damages from her.” “Would I have to put a money value on my husband’s affections?” inquired the client. “Certainly. Amd you need not fear to meke the figure very large.” “I am not under oath, am I?” “Not at all. A well-known actor tells an amusing story of a man who entered the bar parlor of a country inn on a cold day. A group of loungers were huddled about the fire, and the stranger could not get near enough to keep warm. “Got any oysters?” he asked the land lord, and receiving an afiirmative reply, said: ‘“Take a dozen out to my horse.” All hands crowded to the door to see the horse eat oysters. and the stranger secured the most comfortable seat. The landlord returned soon, and said the horse refused to eat the shellfish. “Well, give 'em to me, then,” said the foxy visitor, secure in his resting place. —Tit-Bits. i New York Stocks.
