Senator Teller has issued a warning to
th= silver forces of Colorado that is
backed by historical precedent and sound
reasoning. The fight for the salvation
of this nation from the octupus grasp of
the goldites must be made with united
ranks. The question before the Ameri
can people is the silver problem and no
endless lists of parties with sounding
names will accomplish any result The
silver forces must stand as a unit, and
no trafficking with the goldites for mere
temporary expediency,
The rise in the price ¢f wheat within
the past month has been due to ascer
tained knowledge of the almost complete
failure of the crop in Argentina, Russia
and other great wheat producing coun
tries. The demands of the customers of
these markets and of the millions of
starving natives of India are already
such as to mean better than dollar wheat.
We rejoice with the American farmer in
the fact that nearly $300,c00,000 have
been adued to the price of his wheat
during the past month by reason of the
misfortunes of his competitor elsewhere.
We rejoice with the Republican party,
which can wink and smile and look wise
as it points its dexter finger at the chalk
marks on the black-boards ot the pro
duce exchanges and exclaims, “Great is
the tariff and McKinley is its prophet.”
