The Spanish may be abusing the Cubans, but from reports the latter are keeping them pretiy busy while do ing it., Croker and Hill have ccnsigned each other to political graves. The public is glad that the job of removal was dis posed of among themselves. From Ward comes the word that the Northwestern surveying corps has start ed torun a line to Allen’s Park. With Boulder county intersected by railroad lines, with the latest and most improved milling processes being built, Boulder county mines will find a market hereto- Fore undreamt of, and an encouragement :will be given for the development of her " mines that has never yect seen a parallel. Keep your peepers fixed on Boulder county. It's the placz to tie to. The complications in the great rate war now being waged by all the rail lines against the Gulf and the steamship lines from Galveston to New York are reach ing an advanced stage. Threats are now being made to bring pressure to bear upon the Gulf from a quarter wholly un expected, and the coal fizids of the south ern part of the state will figure in the deal. Whatever way it may be ultimate 1y settled, it is stated that a railroad pool will result which will for ingenious con struction outrival any other known. The prospect of securing permanent reason able rates for Colorado byway of the Gulf of Mexico thus seems to have a chance of defeat after all. The difficulty experienced by the hose Anics in reaching the fire on Maple ton heights yesterday, again calls atten tion to the perilously exposed condition of this town. There is no reason why arrangements should not be made to bave horses in readiness in case of a fire, There are livery stables in the vicinity of the hose houses and some arrange: ments could be made to have a team of horses that could be procured when needed. The time usually lost in secur ing a team to haul thecart always causes a pecuniary loss that is really unneces sary. When an expresswagon is secured the weight of the wagon and the cart proves to be tco much for any ordinary tecam and considerable time islostin get ting to the endangered point, Unless Boulder wants to run the risk ofan expen sive conflnération atsome time arrange -mertsshould bz made for horses at once. W Boulder county may pose as a mining section, but its production in agriculture and horticultural lines during the past year, is not to be sneezed at. Reports from over the county indicate that a larger quantity ot hay has been used in stock feeding the past year than ever before, The example is good. Boulder stock must be known univer sslive It is with some little regret that we note the announcement that the hotel project is abandoned. Boulder possesses many points that render it an ideal spot for a hotel such as the one proposed by the capitalists who were going to build on University Place, and the want of such a place has been felt for many years. During the summer and winter months alike, large numbers of tourists come here to enjoy the mild climate, and for many years efforts have boen directed toward securing capital to build a hotel to meet the demand for accommodation for these visitors, When the announce ment was made this summer that the plan was going through some little in terest was manifested in it by the citi zens and’'it was generally believed that the enterprise would pay. It is likely that the plan w.ll not be pushed to the front again for some time. ’Way rsehind Dante. Mr, W, T. Stead designates New York as the third of the great modern helis, this town following London and Chicago in order of discovery by him. Judging from the flattering notices which the company has received {rom the press in the cities which “Si” has visited, the prospect for fun on the aboye date is good. Like all plays of the “Rube” order, “Si Peikins” possesses a large budget of good, whole some fun; the Yankee wit is so woven into the ¢ramatic lines that the auditor is one minute laughing with honest hearted “S:,” and the next his eyes are brimming over with sympathetic tears No class of dramatic productions appeal so strongly to the heart as those of the rural order. Every American is familiar with the Yankee nature. Shrewd, witty and honest, he pussesses a charm of pe:- sonality which is particularly attractive; and, when upon the mimic stage we can see his prototype, 'tis little wonder that such pieces as “Si Perkins” receive a liberal patronage from American play goers, The present company have for some seven seasons presented the play, and it goes without saying a perfect por trayal will be witnessed.
