Wire) PHOENIX, Jan. I.—Among the projects to be built in Arizona dur ing the year of 1926 with federal aid funds from the $1,055,06 allotted to Arizona by the bureau of public roads, will be the bridge over the Gila river below .the Gillespie dam on the Phoenix-Yuma road. Bids for this bridge will be opened on January 18 by the state highway department. It is one of the m,ost important bridges to ibe erected in the state as it will eliminate the closing- of the Phoenix-Yuma road in times of flood on the- Gila river. A number of atlner projects are contemplated in the state with the federal aid funds, it is stated. These include the improvement of several stretches of the seven per cent sys tem of national roads of the which at present are unimproved and which when in\i‘iGved iwill link the system of good roads together. The federal aid to be obtained by the state from th!e government must be matched with state funds, on the ratio of about 72 per cent federal aid to 28 per cent state funds. Ari zona is one of the states of the Union which receives a large ratio of federal aid. Albuquerque Newspapers Combined Under Single ‘Management; Print Both flty Dispatch A. P. Wpe’l ALBUQQUERQUE, N. M„ Jan. l.r— The Albuquerque Morning Journal and Albuquerque Herald were com bined under one management here today. The two newspapers will, as heretofore, be published under their respective names, the Journal as a morning newspaper and the Herald as an evening newspaper. They will be published from the plant of the Journal. T. M. Pepperday, who was president of the Herald, is publisher of the two newspapers, H. P. Picker ell, who was editor of the Herald, is editor of both newspapers and J. Landis Wilson, advertising manager, according to an announcement to be published in The Morning Journal to morrow. The Morning Journal has been pub lished in Albuquerque for more than 40 years. For years it was the only newspaper in this part of the south west to carry a full Associated Press report, and is the only morning newspaper in New Mexico. The Her ald, too, has a long history, being . the successor of a pioneer paper call ed the Evening Citizen and later the Tribune-Citizen. Both papers are members of The Associated Press. The reorganization of the Morning Journal publishing company was ef fected with the following officers: T. M. Pepperday, president; Q. Lan dis Wilson, vice president; H. P. Pick rell, secretary.
