LAW GRASPS MAN. WANTED IN CASE HERE. FOR YEARS | Ralph Longnecker Arrested ! In Texas and Returned To Face Court 1 Sheriff George R. Henshaw offered proof that the arm of the law is long- I yesterday when Omar A. Ash. deputy ! for the Douglas district, stepped off the train here accompanied by Ralph E. Longnecker, who will be remembered i by many in Douglas as a firemen on I the El Paso and Southwestern rail-1 j road before the merger. | , Ash, armed with papers showing that Longnecker is wanted for contempt of the Cochise county superior court in matters growing out of a charge of abandonment of his minor children, went to Sweetwater, Texas, where Longnecker was arrested and where he signed a piper waiving extradition and agreed to return to Douglas with the officer. Longnecker, who is divorced from Mrs. Buelah Longnecker of this city, related upon arriving here yesterday afternoon that he has since married a woman who formerly resided here and in Tucson. He expressed regret that he had not seen his three children who are here with his former wife and said that his intention had been to return i-nd “do something for the children.” , Sheriff Henshaw related that the ar i rest of Longnecker was the culmina tion of a search that has been carried on quietly for nearly two years. He said that a number of times inquiry had disclosed that Longnecker had left cities just before the search reached them. Deputy Ash related that a car belonging to LongnVrker or to the present Mrs. Longnecker, which he saw ! at Sweetwater, has an Oklahoma li ! cense which he said indicated to him I that the pair had been in that state since Longnecker left here. I Sheriff Henshaw, after taking his ! prisoner before Deputy County Attor- I ney B. G. Thompson here for ques i tioning, rembved the man to the ; | Tombstone jail. Just what the charge ; jof contempt of court constitutes in j j this base was not known here yes- i terday. but it is supposed that the i | contempt is constituted by the failure i ; of the man to provide for his children i as the orders of the court had di- j reeted. He said yesterday that he had | l ne t provided for them for a long time. ; Deputy Ash, on his swift trip to ; ! Texas after the man was armed with : i a document signed by Sheriff Hen , shaw stating that Longnecker was | wlanted on charges constituting a , felony and that if he refused to return freely the proper steps Would be taken to extradite. Deputy Ash presented ! this paper first to the sheriff at Sweet - water and later to his prisoner so that Longnecker, desiring to make short i work of the matter, waived extradi- I tion. With the nominations closing on March 28 and no opposition having developed except in the aldermanic field in three wards little special in- 1 centive to vote is ottered the public but the campaign carried on here the past lew years to impress the voter; with his duty and privilege as a citizen in casting a ballot in every election is bearing fruit, observers believe, in an increased registration. The fact that nominations have closed does not mean that additional candidates may not enter the race for one may become a candidate at the primaries if sufficient voters write his name in on the ticket for one party or another, it is not anticipated that any additional can didates will enter. 1 —1 “ N PAINTS & VARNISHES We have just received a large stock of IVs IINJXRA.
