Breeding has returned home from Tuscumbia, where he has been engaged the last ten months in teach* ing. He will spend the greater part of vacation heie after his return from the north, leaving here yesterday for St. Paul Minnesota to attend the National Teachers Association, and expects to visit Nashville, Louisville, Cincinnati and Chicago. Rev. J. J. Jamar pastor of the C. M. E. church preached at Curries Chapel last Sunday. Quite a number of teachers will open their summer school this week. Hunting is in ordar during the dry weather. The grandest affair of the season was the musical and literary enter tainment given in honor of Dr. W. E. Sterrs, at Institute Hall, last Monday night. Misses Bettie Malone, Athens; -Alace M. Vassar, Nashville; L. C Bradford and Eliza McCallv, Huntsville, were participants in the concert wLich added much to the in terest and made it a grand success. There were also some home talent employed all of wham did well. Miss Fannie Higgins and Mr. John Page brought forth applause by their sing ing; while Misses Malone and Vas sar their sweet singing and were fre quently called back amidst wild ap plauses. Misses Bradford and Me - Cally presided alternately at the piano with much credit to them selves. There were a great many present to witness the grand occas ion. The ministers of the city made some good and pointed speeche'. Alter which many of the citizens made encouraging remarks. It was a grand success due the untiring ef* I fort of Hon. H. V.
