sons of small means, laboring people and
small property owners, has grown greatly

Hose's desire to prevent a loss of money
to thee people.

ganization of concerns of like character un

Attempted Suicide by Tak
ing Chloroform.
Gertie Burn- of No. JTT3 BMaie street, of
fended because her sister scolded her for
staying out late at night, took a heavy dc
of chloroform yesterday evening-. Sh mi
removed to the City Hospital In an- uncon
scloas condition. After the stomach pump
had been used the physicians stated that
her condition is not serious.
Gertie, who Is 17 years old. Is unusually
pretty and quite popular In Blddle street
society. Her parents are dead and she lives
with an rider sister. She said that she has
been remaining out lato at night, and her
s.ster objected to this. Yesterday mornlns
tne elticr sister gave her a. lecture which
hurt her feelings that later In the day she
purchased K cents- worth of chloroform and
attempted suicide.
Doctor Rassicur. Assistant Superintendent
at the City Hospital, said: -This Is one of
the first cases of chloroform poisoning that
has ever como under my attention. Taking
the drug internally la somewhat rare, but
I have no doubt It would produce what U
known as an easy death when thus taken."
