In a dull and desultory market yesterday both wheat and corn advanced a trifle over Monday's figures. Tradlne vas again conflned to professional', most of whom seemed to think that it was safer to hold their lines than to let bo on thu showing of bearish statistical advices. It ivas conceded that the Government crop report, posted Monday afternoon, was favorable to tho selling; side. This was eppedally true of corn. Still, other considerations prevented a downward movement. Though receipts hero wcro heavy there was no apparent rush of outsiders to let go. Weather conditions pointed to cotln ued high temperature and the private wires were laden with vague reports of insect damage. Buying1 was fair in the last hour. Legitimate conditions for corn were bearish. The Government report indicated a record-breaking crop and receipts were on the increase. Despite this there was a vaguo fear of Chicago manipulation and most of the few traders who were active in the pit were slow to make offers. Dec. wheat opened W8io up and closed He up. Dec corn opened unchanped and closed l-16o up. Dec oats cioaea ;t,a ujj. Receipts of produce were moderate and a fair it-mand kept prices for fruits and veg etables about steady. Local securities were active and slightly higher. Third National was-the bull card, with an advance of $0.25 a share. ... . ., 1 . ...... eo rs C.VT Vi11:th e.70u tVJi THPA.nnf i-?it wii steotfv anK cie-arjiiBn - w,-.w., - --.. .--, - .... .. ...
