EARLY BRACE GAVE WAY TO
DEMORALIZATION.
Amalgamated Copper Took a Big
Tumble to 531-2, Tliree Points
Lower Than It Ever Was.
New Tort, Nov. 11. There -was a, fresh
outbreak of demoralization on the Stock
Exchange this afternoon, after quite a sub
stantial recovery had been achieved this
morning. The manner In which the market
acted at tho recovery was Mich as to give
some preparation for the renewal of heavy
liquidation.
It la a maxim of professional triers,
after a daj of :uch violent declines ns those
of yesterday, to buv stocks and cover short
contracts This was the course pursued In
thi3 morning's market, resulting in ad
vances of from 1 to 2 points In the major
ity of leading active stoeks on the list, but
the absorptive power of the market snowed
a steady decrease as the advance In price
proceeded.
Commission houses were practically idle
and reported that no orders were b'ing re
ceived from outsiue sources. The market
wavered uncertainly through the noonday
rcriod. and even stood with apparent equa
nimity the early s-tnges of the violent liqui
dation In Amalgamated Copper. The s-ecm-ingly
endless outpouring of this stock
eventually undermines the market.
The identity of the capitalists in control
of this corporation with thosi- control'lng
the Standard Oil Company and the enor
mous nrestlge carried by thi3 groun In llnan-
( clal affairs cau'-ed a deep significance to be
attached to the unloading cf Amalcamated
j Copper.
ENORMOUS LIQUIDATION.
As a consequence, enormous liquidation
was renewed throughout the list. Some of
the stocks which took n leading place In
the morning recovery", were the most acute
sufferers In the late weakness Just at the
close St, Paul made a spectacular tumble
to ITS, making a loss of 56 from last night.
This movement was accepted as additional
corroboration of the unfavorable view of
market values taken by the financial group
above referred to.
There was no new development to account
for th'e weakness, and It was considered to
be due simply to tho desire on the part of
the speculativ o holders to lighten their load,
pending the exigencies of the money mar
ket, which must bo met between now and
the first of the year.
There was evidence of particularly heavy
liquidation In Southern Pacific In North
western there was a break of 9 pclnta.
Lackawanna 9-v;, Tennessee Coal 5 and
United States Realty, one of the newly
launched speeulatlvcs, A. The demoralized
tone of tho market set afloat various ru
mors of financial difficulties.
WORK OF THE BEARS.
The rally in tho late dealings which
reached a point in a few active stocks In
dicated a considerable part played by the
bears in the early selling. But this demand
was freely fed and the market broke at the
last under an overwhelming flood of selling
orders, making the closing very weak.
Many stocks ended lower then tho lowest
Erlce of yesterday. Amalgamated Copper
roke through its previous low record of
KH established yesterday nnd placed its
record 3 points lower, closing only H above
that point.
The indication afforded by the Government
crop report of a bumper corn yield In ex
cess of previous estimates h'lned the re
covery In the morning. There was a feel
ing also that gold exports woulc be deferred
beyond this week. An excjss of over a
million dollars In the Government's dis
bursements over collectlon-il day following
a smaller excess yesterday was regarded
hopefully, although the local butitrjaury
continues its heavy demand on tho market
for customs collections.
New York exchange at Chicago dropped
back 30c to-day to 10o discount, and vtrter
day's small premium was attributed to
remittances to take advantage of 'he treak
In the stock market for the purchase ct
stocks.
The bond market was more mildly affected
than stocks. Total sale", par value. J3.35,
000. United States bonds were all un
changed on the last cuiU

dav, with a rapid advance from 1333 to

Mondays price. Germanla Trust also was
active, with sales of 74 Miares at 52.T, with

Missouri Trust was well taken on the

City Police cases were argued and sub-,
milted In tho Supreme Court to-day. Wil
liam IL. Wallace of Kansas City, represent
ed tho policemen and City Counselor In
graham the city. TV. H. Uoodnow, J. Ho
pan. C. L. Knight. J. T. Wachs and S. O.
Smith were policemen appointed in Kansas
City, but who later lost their Jobs. Suit
was brought against the city, alleging that
thev were annotated for a term of four
years and that tho city was liable for the
balance of salary due.

torney Ingraham asked for tho appoint
ment of a speclil commissioner to take ev
dence which was taken under consideration
by the court.
The case of the State vs. Henry Wilson ot
St. Louis was postponed until Friday. Wil
son Is unfier sentence of death, but the
omission of the word ""with"' la the indict
ment caused Division No. 2 to reverse the.
lower court and transfer it to the court In
banc for hearing.

III. To-night he was installed as pastor of
this church. Tho Reverend A. A. Boyd ot

the constitutional Questions. The Reverend
J. B. Hill of Kansas City delivered the
charge to the pastor and the Reverend 8.
D. Jewell of Butler delivered the charge to
mo people.

Callaway County, under sentence of two
years In the Penitentiary for mule stealing,
came to the prison to-day and gave him
self up' to Warden Wooldrldge. to. serve his
term. Hume appealed his case to the Su
preme Court and was out on bond when he
decided to serve his term. Humo was)
charged with stealing mules and selling:
them In Kansas City. He says he was Inno
cent, but was unible to prove it-
