There was active covering, which Inside of half an hour bad forced a rally of ot er 25 points on the active months. Follow ing this, leading bears, by offering quite large blocks, managedr to get the list down to aJbout or a little under last night's finals. In the late trading the undertone was pretty ateady. REPUBLIC SPECIAL. Chlcauo, 111., Oct (.-Selling by tired longs removed the peg at L135s1.1514. on which the price of May wheat has been hung at the close for three days, and there waa a slowly growing tendency to weakness In the market after a lc recov ery from the first break. At the close Slay was at the low point of tho day, with a loss of iSiic, and Dec. sWio loner. The trade was duller than at any time since the advance to the high point on the crop, and the fact that tho buying earlier In the session had been almost entirely professional, told ngainst the price in the end. At the opening, weakness at Minneapo lis, lower cables and liberal receipts In the Northwest, started the market on the down grade. May declined 1Pc, but Dec held relatively firmer, and good buying of that delivery by some of the longs, the. prediction of rain and snow for the Northwest, reports of sales to Eastern millers from Duluth and claims of sales of H,000 bbls. flour for export at Minneapolis were buying incentives on the recovery. St. Louis cash was lio lower at the close. At Minneapolis and Duluth cash prices lost exactly the gain of the day before, 4'a44c. Flour demand at Minneapolis during the last ten days has evidently been heavier than reported, a Minneapolis wire claim ing the largest sales on record to domes tic millers September 24. 110,000 bbl. Sell ing early In the session was by Bartlctt Frazler, Lojan, Jackson Bros, and Ware Leland. The final break wns caued by liberal selling of May by Kneeland-Clem-ent-Curtls and Wrcnn around $1.13. The Armour Interest apparently neglected the market CORN ALSO GIVES WAY. Corn was firm early In the session under the lead of Dec. strength, based mainly on better cash demand and occasional buying by the bull houses. May advanced ?se and Dec. c. but the market was a still one and finally gave way with wheat, closing tjc lower for May and 4c higher for Dec and Oct Cash prices were steady to Vjc higher, with shipping sales of 250,000 bu.. Including 200.000 bu. No. 2 at 3Hc over May In store. The prediction of unset tled and cooler weather for the corn belt lost, somo force because the' weekly Gov ernment bulletin said all but E to 20 per cent of the crop was now safe from frost Receipts were 1&5 cars and 97 were esti mated for to-morrow. The best selling was by Bartlett-Frazier. Comstock and Friedman. Wrenn bought Dec. early and sold later, and there was fair buying of May by Spencer. Receipts were 232 cars, and 134 are estimated. Provisions were easy, a reaction partly due to profit-taking and partly, to a smaller trade. Big Increase in World's Visible Weakens Market, Already De pressed by Liberal North western Eeceipts. BT ASSOCIATED PRESS. Chicago, Oct. 4. A big increase In the world's visible supply weakened wheat at tho close to-day. Liberal receipts In the Northwest emphasized the depression. Compared with last night's figure, Dec wheat closed Wac lower. May Is oft iST4e. Dec. corn is up c. Oats show a gain of 'ic. Provisions are down 5c to 10c WHEAT. Owing to smaller local receipts than ex pected there was a fair demand for wheat at the opening. Offerings were compara tively light In consequence, a steady tone was manifested. Dec wa3 a shade lower to a shade higher at J1.13Vi to I1.13!J. May opened HSKc lower to a shade higher at $1.13ii to .1.1314. For tho first few minutes pit traders and commission houses were moderate buyers, lec. selling up to JI.13V4 and May to tl.l3s4 1.135s. Liberal arrivals, however. In the Northwest soon caused an active selling of the Dec. delivery. A reaction followed, Dec. declining to JL12W and May to 1.12i. Later tho pit crowd bought back much of the wheat sold earlier in the day. The market assumed a firmer tone, an advance of about c from the low point being registered. Additional advices in regard to reported record breaking sales of flour In the Northwest and advices from Aus tralia Indicating poor crop prospects, had considerable influence in bringing out the renewed demand. Quick reversal In sentiment came, never theless, with announcement of an increase of 10,000.000 bu. in the world's available stocks, the market being again subjected to heavy selling pressure. As a result, prices slumped and the feel ing at tho close was weak, prices being at the lowest point of the day. Final quotations on Dec. were at IL12V4. May closed at JL12i. Clearances of wheat and flour were equal to 27.700 bu. Title world's visible supply, according to Brad street's Increased 10.000,000 bu.
