The situation hero reflected that of other domestic markets, as nothing developed to turn things one way or the other. Trading- was light aad there was a total lack of out-'Ide interest: On the declines some transactions of a professional nature were mate, but these wera not in sufttcient votame to Infuse nvich life, and at tlmss the pit was almost aban doned. News as a rule was favorable to the buying side. Even the Government sum mary was mildly bullish, bat an reports were offset by Chicago, where the situation was patently in the hands of professionals. Barrel was a seller or LXc wheat, and the rlt clement trailed after him. There Is a great feelta? of doubt as to what Armour will do. and until this Is known traders are afraid to venture far from the shore. Should he suddenly dedde to unload his holdings there would be many a one left high and dry. What makes the doubt doubly annoying Is that the Armour houso falls to support the market. Cables were somewhat firmer. The early market at Liverpool was fairly strong on news of the strike !n Argentina, but later eased off on large offerings from Manitoba and heavy American shipments. There were rains and cool weather tn the West, but in Minnesota and sections of the Dakotas shock-thrashing- has been completed. The cash market on certain grades was firm, but on soft wheat the demand was light and values Inclined to ease off. Corn opened tim and prices were fairly well maintained throughout the day. both here and in other domestic markets. An enormous demand exists, which Is being; but poorly met by receipts. The Government summary on corn was decidedly bullish. In many of the finest bottom farms floods have laid the crop on the ground, and rains - and cool weather In the corn belt are preventing early maturity. Dec wheat opened steady to a fraction higher and closed c lower. Dec. corn opened steady and closed a fraction lower. Dec. oats closed nominally steady. Receipts of produce were In fair volume. Prices of fruits aad vegetables wera steady to firm. Local securities were rather active. Banking issues were well supported. Yesterday's bank clearings were 7.516-. balances JS67.1SI. Discount rates wera steady between 4-j and 5i per cent. Spot cotton was quiet in the local market. BEARS CONTROL MARKET FOR SPECULATIVE GRAIN. DECEMBER WHEAT CLOSES LOWER. Situation Here Influenced Large ly by Professionals in Chicago. Wheat was easier In yesterday's local grain market. Trading- was light and connned largely to scalping operation. There being no special feature to influ ence the situation. St. Louis trailed along after Chicago and other local market. and moved as they did. Outside Interest was totally lacking, and prices ware not such as to excite speculative buying. FVarelgn news wa.s somewhat lullih. but all reisarts were offset by the tend ency of traders In Chicago to await tne roult of Armour's action. The Govern ment summary was rather favorable to th buying side than otherwise. Cash values for red wheat were mm. but de mand for the soft were lacking. Clearances of wheat and Hour Tuesday were equal to StOAUl bushels. Dec. wheat opened steady to a fraction higher, ranged from MHaytac to tCVi and. closed M,c lower. Corn values wera better throughout the day than those of wheat. The demand for all purposes is enormous, while receipts are inadequate to take care of it. A good Inquiry exists for export, and bulls say that this will increa: to a surprising ex tent before the crop matures. The Government nummary was mildly bullish on corn. Hoods have dont consid erable damage in certain sections where the yield was most promising. The cool weather and rains an preventing early maturity of the crop ..-.
